The Cabbage Merchant from Avatar: The Last Airbender may have nearly destroyed Ba Sing Se.On Twitter, Avatar fan @Mkatwood shared a clip of a Ba Sing Se official preventing the iconic character from entering the city. As seen in the short video, she prohibits the Merchant from traveling on the ferry with vegetables, for fear of him introducing a cabbage slug and ruining Ba Sing Se's entire ecosystem. Mkatwood slowed down a portion of the clip and suggested his cart did indeed contain a cabbage slug, specifically pointing a red arrow to a shape that resembled a slug. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, fans can best recognize the Cabbage Merchant by his memorable tagline, "My Cabbages!" In several episodes, the character cries out the phrase after some mishap upsets his vegetable cart, destroying his cabbages. James Sie, the voice actor behind the Merchant, also returned to play the Cabbage Corp owner and son of the original character, Lau Gan-Lan, in the Avatar sequel The Legend of Korra.

Team Avatar Is Ready to Ruin Some Live-Action Cabbages

In September 2022, Sie confirmed his involvement in Netflix's live-action reimagining of the beloved Nickelodeon series. The voice actor announced he would reprise his role with a picture of himself wearing a shirt with the caption, "World Famous Ba Sing Se Cabbage." Previously, Sie discussed his gratefulness to revisit the Cabbage Merchant in Netflix's adaptation. "It was a real honor to be called for the show... I can't say anything about it, but I can say that everybody who worked on it is such a big fan of the series," said Sie. "I felt like visiting royalty when I went out to do my scene, because everybody knew me and it felt really special."

Beyond Netflix's reboot, Paramount and Avatar Studios have an expansive film and television schedule for fans. Dante Basco confirmed he would reprise his role as Zuko in an upcoming animated film. Basco voiced the former Fire Nation prince throughout all three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender and returned to play the Firelord's grandson, Iroh II, in The Legend of Korra.

Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series does not yet have a release date. Avatar Studios' upcoming film is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 10, 2025.
