As he is the reincarnation of Roku, as well as the other Avatars that came before him, Aang is wise despite not having much life experience. And because he had only been conscious for twelve years before being trapped in the iceberg, Aang often acts like a child. This mix between wisdom and innocence gives Aang a lot of memorable lines, with these 10 being the best from Book One.

10  "You Were Right. And If Firebenders Found This Temple, That Means They Found The Other Ones Too. I Really Am The Last Airbender."

Katara: Broke Aang Out Of The Iceberg

When Aang first heard that nobody saw an airbender since the war started, he didn't want to believe it. He went to the Southern Air Temple to see if anyone from his past was still around.

Seeing the skeleton of his former master, he was devastated until Katara and Sokka let him know that they were his new family, allowing him to accept what happened.

Though many fans don't like this episode, it did show how smart and sneaky Aang could be. After meeting two tribes that were fighting each other for 100 years, Aang tries to make peace between them. By doing so, he sent Katara and Sokka to figure out from each tribe what began their feud.

After getting all of the information he needed to solve their problem, he lied about the history the two tribes shared and was able to convince them that the whole thing was a misunderstanding. Once they departed, Aang told his friends the truth, which they were shocked by.

8 "Jeong Jeong Tried To Tell Me That I Wasn't Ready. I Wouldn't Listen. I'm Never Gonna Firebend Again."

Aang tries Firebending

After Aang met Jeong Jeong, a firebender who could teach him how to firebend, he tried to control the flames in ways he wasn't ready for. When he did, he burned Katara and felt awful about it. He told her that he wouldn't firebend again, despite knowing that he would eventually need to in order to save the world.

When she told him that she had healed, he was shocked to learn that she was able to do so with her waterbending, and decided that he would learn how to firebend when the time was right.

7 "I Solved The Question The Same Way I Solved The Challenges. As You Said A Long Time Ago, I Had To Open My Brain To The Possibilities. Bumi, You're A Mad Genius."

After going to Omashu, Aang was forced to solve three challenges and answer a question if he wanted to save his friends from the king. The challenges were very unique and made Aang think differently. He had to recover a key from a waterfall by using his airbending.

He had to bring the king's pet to him, which turned out to be a different creature than what he had expected. And he had an interesting fight with the king, who didn't use his earthbending the way that most would. In the end, he had to figure out the king's name. When he thought about the challenges, he realized that the king was his old friend Bumi all along, who always thought differently. The two were happy to see each other again after 100 years.

Though Aang and Katara would eventually be together and start a family, it took a long time for her to reciprocate his feelings. After meeting a fortuneteller named Aunt Wu, who told Aang that he would be with the one he loves, he tried to tell Katara how he felt.

Unfortunately, she didn't hear him and ran off. Though Aunt Wu lied about her prediction to make Aang happy, it was obvious that he and Katara were going to become a couple by the end of the series.

5 "You Know What, I'm Really Glad You Guys All Live Here Now. I Realized It's Like The Hermit Crab. Maybe You Weren't Born Here, But You Found This Empty Shell & Made It Your Home, & Now You Protect Each Other."

When Aang and his friends went to the Northern Air Temple, Aang was disappointed to see how much it had changed since when he visited it 100 years prior. Seeing that the citizens changed it a lot for their own needs, Aang felt like they disgraced the airbenders.

However, he came to realize that they needed a place to live and that the Northern Air Temple was still a great place despite its changes. He was happy that it could be a home to people, even if they weren't airbenders.

4 "Katara, I Think You Were Right Before. I'm Done Dwelling On The Past. I Can't Make Guesses About How Things Would Have Turned Out If I Hadn't Run Away. I'm Here Now, & I'm Going To Make The Most Of It."

When Aang learned that he was the Avatar, his life significantly changed. His friends stopped playing with him, he was forced to train, and it was decided that he would be taken away from Gyatso. Upon hearing this, he ran away from the Southern Air Temple and found himself in the middle of a storm.

To protect himself, he went into the Avatar State and created the iceberg that Sokka and Katara found him in. When he told his story to Katara, she was able to convince him that it was all meant to happen.

3 "I Wasn't There When The Fire Nation Attacked My People. I'm Gonna Make A Difference This Time."

Aang

There was always a part of Aang that blamed himself for not fighting against the Fire Nation during the 100 years that he was asleep.

However, if he was, he would not have been able to help him defend the Northern Water Tribe when they were attacked. As they prepared for battle, he said these words and waited for his enemies to arrive.

2 "Destroying The Moon Won't Hurt Just The Water Tribe. It Will Hurt Everyone, Including You. Without The Moon, Everything Would Fall Out Of Balance. You Have No Idea What Kind Of Chaos That Would Unleash On The World."

Zhao stares Aang down

At the end of Book One, Zhao invaded the Northern Water Tribe and killed the Moon Spirit. Before he did, Aang tried to convince him that what he was doing was wrong. As Zhao left, Aang joined the Ocean Spirit to defeat the other firebenders.

During his attack, Yue sacrificed herself to save the Moon Spirit, who had saved her life when she was born. Once the Ocean Spirit saw that the moon returned, it left Aang and killed Zhao. Shortly after, Aang and his friends left the Northern Water Tribe.

When Zhao captured Aang, the Blue Spirit saved him. As the two escaped from Zhao and his soldiers, Aang found out that the person underneath the Blue Spirit's mask was Zuko, who had been knocked out. Aang saved him and waited for him to wake up. When he did, Aang said these words to him.

Rather than giving an answer, Zuko attacked, causing Aang to flee. Little did fans know that this moment foreshadowed Aang and Zuko's friendship, which would become one of the best in the franchise.
