With Avatar getting a special edition 3D re-release in theaters this weekend, it's been confirmed that there's an even more special edition in the works: A new DVD/Blu-Ray release will contain even more new, unseen footage from the movie.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the November two-disc special edition home release of the movie will feature "at least" sixteen minutes of additional footage from the original movie, compared with this weekend's eight and a half. Producer Jon Landau explained what to expect from this second double dip (Triple dip?):
There's a whole new scene that takes place in the (Na'vi) school, there's more night bioluminescence, there's new creatures, and there is a new action scene. The scenes don't just feel like added scenes -- they are very organic to the story and embellish it.
Depressingly, this won't be the last version of the movie on DVD: A 3D Blu-Ray is expected to be released next year. That one'll probably have even more footage.
