Avatar Aang did not have an easy beginning to his life after becoming the Avatar. Soon after he became the person meant to guide the world forward, the world itself fell into deep chaos due to the actions of the first Fire Lord.

Aang would go on to atone for his sin of running away when he finally overcame Fire Lord Ozai during Sozin's Comet, proving that he was indeed the strongest bender at the time. Since he was ten, Avatar Aang has grown significantly, not only as a man but as an Avatar.

12 Amon (Aang Can Defeat)

Amon was previously the leader of an anti-bending establishment known as the Equalist. Through this group, Amon intended to disrupt the natural order and remove bending from society. Amon pressed hard to see his ideas come to fruition but, after Korra revealed his true identity, he was abandoned by those who followed. Amon is a skilled fighter who has many years of experience with blood bending, making him a worthy adversary even for Aang. That being said Aang would be able to handle Amon with little problems.

11 Sozin (Aang Can't Defeat)

Fire Lord Sozin was is the most famous Fire Lord in Fire Nation history. Sozin is widely known for starting the Hundred Year War in order to expand the Fire nation into other territories, as a means to dominate the world. Sozin held incredible power but he was even more cunning and smarter than he was strong. This skillset allowed him to rise to the rank of Fire Lord, and he used his power to transform the Fire Nation into a force to be reckoned with. In the end, Sozin was even willing to betray his closest friend in order to achieve his goals. That disregard for life would probably give him the edge in a battle against Aang.

10 Ozai (Aang Can Defeat)

At the tail end of the Hundred Year War, Fire Lord Ozai was believed to be the strongest bender in the world by a large majority of the population. His cruelty was widespread and just an utterance of his name would bring many people to a tremble. Ozai put up a decent fight in his battle against Aang but, at the end of the day, the young Avatar was able to overpower the overzealous Fire Lord, dethroning him and re-establishing the balance between the nations.

9 Kyoshi (Aang Can't Defeat)

At some point, most Avatars go through a period of great destabilization and pain, none greater than the pain Kyoshi had to endure. Kyoshi was born to two criminal parents, who would later abandon her during her primitive years, forcing her to survive on her own until she met the man who would go on to be her adoptive father.

After learning that she was truly the next Avatar, her friend, who had previously been believed to be the Avatar, was sacrificed as part of a ritual. Kyoshi was an extremely skilled and ruthless Avatar, and that ruthlessness would be crucial in her obtaining a victory over Aang.

7 Korra (Aang Can Defeat)

Korra is the current iteration of the avatar and the direct successor of the beloved, Avatar Aang. Though young, Korra has shown considerable skill throughout her time as Avatar. As an Avatar, Korra always possessed immense power and potential, which she displayed from a young age, being able to use several different elements during her childhood years. Korra would go on to master the elements and become a worthy Avatar but, in a battle against Aang, it's hard to imagine how she would come out on top.

6 Prime Iroh (Aang Can't Defeat)

General Iroh was one of the Fire Nation's greatest ever warriors, but after losing his son at the 600 hundred-day siege of Ba Sing Se, he turned a new leaf. The unnecessary tragedy of the death of his son brought about a new perspective in Iroh and he would go on to live a much more honorable and peaceful life. Before this, Iroh was a general of repute who was in line to become the next Fire Lord. In his prime, Iroh might be capable of obliterating a young and somewhat inexperienced Avatar Aang.

4 Azula (Aang Can Defeat)

Azula was the princess of the Fire Nation and one of the greatest threats to Team Avatar throughout the run of the series. Ever since her childhood, Azula has been exceptionally gifted at bending and this resulted in her developing a superiority complex.

Fueled by the toxic words of her father, Azula would go on to fall further and further into depravity until she became nothing but a shell of her former self. That being said, with her mind in the right place, Azula is one of the most fearsome benders on the planet. Unfortunately for her, Aang is a couple of leagues ahead of that.

3 Roku (Aang Can't Defeat)

Avatar Roku was a Fire Nation Avatar and a close friend to the first Fire Lord, Sozin. Roku and Sozin grew together and the two boys were exceptionally talented but their friendship began to change once it was announced that Roku was to be the next Avatar. Despite this, Roku would continue to cherish his friend until his final days. Roku lived an exceptional life and showed on numerous occasions why he became one of the strongest Avatars in history. A battle between Aang and Roku would be hotly contested and might last for several days, but Roku would just about be able to win in the end due to his extensive knowledge.

2 Zuko (Aang Can Defeat)

Before he took over as Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, Zuko was an angsty teenager eager to prove himself and earn his redemption. Since then, Zuko has come a long way from his days as a banished and shamed prince. Through the help of both his uncle, Iroh, and members of Team Avatar, Zuko was able to turn a new leaf and become the person his mother always wanted him to be. Zuko is a fire bending master and genius, having learned from the Dragons themselves. A battle between Zuko and Aang would go down in history and the Avatar might have the upper hand on his longtime rival and friend.

1 Wan (Aang Can't Defeat)

Wan was the first-ever Avatar ten thousand years before the current Avatar, Korra. Having been banished from his homeland, Wan set off on a journey that would see him bring balance to the spirit realm and the human world. Upon achieving this great feat, he then became recognized as the first-ever Avatar. Wan was the person to set out the basic code of conduct for an Avatar, as well as the one who made it possible for the Avatar's spirit to continually be reincarnated. Avatar Wan was the first and probably the strongest ever Avatar, meaning Aang might have a hard time defeating him.
