"A Wrinkle in Time" is based on the 1962 fantasy novel of the same name written by Madeleine L’Engle. The novel follows 14-year-old Meg, her younger brother and a classmate as they travel through space and time in search of her missing astrophysicist father, who disappeared while working on secret government project involving moving between planets by means of a fifth dimension.

Directed by Ava DuVernay, from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee (“Frozen"), the film features Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, and Kaling as Mrs. Who.

L’Engle’s award-winning novel was followed by four sequels, “A Wind in the Door,” “A Swiftly Tilting Planet,” “Many Waters” and “An Acceptable Time,” referred to collectively as the Time Quintet.

“A Wrinkle in Time” was previously adapted as a TV-movie that aired, following delays, in 2004 on ABC. Disney distributed the project in the United States. The novel has also been turned into a play, an opera and, most recently, a graphic novel.
