Recently, Austin Powers director, Jay Roach, let it slip that he is open to directing a fourth film in the franchise.

During an interview with  Deadline, Jay Roach responded about the possibility of a new Austin Powers sequel when Hammond talked about how the franchise was an "all-time favorite" for him. On the possibility of another film being released, Roach said, "I wouldn't say 'never never...I'm always game for whatever [Mike Myers] wants to do.'"

Roach clarified that any potential fourth film would depend on Mike Myers, had a hand in writing and starred in all three films. "It does depend on Mike having something that he's inspired about, and so far, after all these years, it hasn't quite clicked yet," Roach explained.

How Roach's remarks fit with Mike Myers' recent comments about plans for either a new Austin Powers film or a movie about Dr. Evil is unclear for now.

Over the past decade, Mike Myers has taken a lower profile, recently hosting NBC's The Gong Show via the fictitious persona of Tommy Maitland and performing minor roles in Inglorious Basterds and Bohemian Rhapsody. Meanwhile, Jay Roach has continued to direct, most recently helming Bombshell, a dark comedy about the real-life sexual harassment scandal at FOX News.
