Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish to Helm Paramount’s Snow Crash

Ever since he burst onto the scene last year with the fun and violent alien-invasion movie Attack the Block, writer/director Joe Cornish has been looking at all kinds of projects to tackle as his follow-up. According to Deadline, he finally made a decision, and it’s the Paramount Pictures adaptation of Snow Crash.

Neal Stephenson’s 1992 cyberpunk novel follows the adventures of Hiro Protagonist, a samurai hacker who discovers the truth about the computer-transmitted brain-frying drug called Snow Crash and does his best to put a stop to it. The description sounds perfect for Cornish, who deftly mixed genres in Block without losing the emotional center of the story.

Snow Crash was originally optioned by producer Kathleen Kennedy and Paramount when it was published two decades ago, but the project wound up in development hell. Kennedy recent convinced the studio to reacquire the rights, and passed the book to Cornish, who soon signed on for the adaptation.
