The studio behind Attack on Titan will produce a new anime based on Grimm's Fairy Tales.Netflix has announced an original anime based on Grimm's Fairy Tales is currently in development at WIT Studio, the company behind such popular anime as Attack on Titan, The Great Pretender and Vinland Saga. The news came during Netflix's prerecorded panel at the Annecy International Film Festival, where the company also announced a new anime spin-off of The Witcher, as well as anime adaptations of the graphic novel Super Crooks and the comedy manga Thermae Romae Novae.RELATED: Evangelion Finale Experiences Box Office Surge After Animation Revisions

The Grimm's Fairy Tales anime will feature original character designs by CLAMP, the entirely female-run group of manga creators that wrote and illustrated beloved series such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth. The same group of manga artists also designed the characters for the classic anime Code Geass. While there is currently no release date or title for the series, the anime will premiere on Netflix, marking the first of likely many collaborations between CLAMP and the streaming service.

This new anime's story will introduce a unique element of horror and suspense to each story to enliven the classic fairy tales. Michiko Yokote, who has previously written scripts for Cowboy Bebop, Gintama, Bleach and the upcoming anime adaptation of Netflix's Bright, will write the screenplay, which is described as a "modern twist on the well-established fables."
