The world at the beginning of Attack on Titan is entirely ensconced by three enormous Walls, whose purpose is to protect the inhabitants within from the mindless human-devouring monsters that dwell outside. As such, it's no surprise that people have come up with dozens of martial techniques and technology in order to combat and perhaps end the Titan threat.
Swords and guns are the most common weapons in the story, as they can be easily carried by any fighter, while larger and more complicated ones are usually mounted in place. Every weapon in Attack on Titan is useful, but there are degrees of convenience that can be used to classify each of them.
10 Firearms Offer Negligible Benefits Against Titan Attacks
Firearms are unfortunately not very effective when it comes to Titan attacks, largely because they remain as technologically stunted as they were when the Walls were first built.
The most popular firearms in the story are pistols, muskets, hand cannons, flintlock guns, and shotguns. Interestingly, the world beyond Paradis has developed more advanced firearms, including machine guns, revolvers, and bolt action rifles.
9 The Executioner From Hell Can Only Be Used On One Titan At A Time
Hange Zoë's Executioner from Hell is a fixed-point weapon in that it is entirely integrated into the Wall gates. It involves a pulley system that holds an enormous log aloft, bringing it down when the Titan target is within its range.
The Executioner from Hell is extremely convenient and has a 100% chance of success. However, the drawback is that a human "bait" is needed to tempt any nearby Titans into the weapon's vicinity.
8 The Ultra Hard Steel Blades Are Simple And Efficient, But Demand Maintenance
The most prevalent bladed weapons in Attack on Titan are swords made of ultrahard steel, a material that is capable of cutting through Titan skin with relative ease. They are part of the required training protocol for Scouts' recruits and can be quite devastating in experienced hands like Levi and Mikasa.
One of the major benefits of ultrahard blades is their negligible mass, allowing wielders to carry multiple swords with them. On the other hand, it's nearly impossible to slice open a Titan's nape with a dull edge, so maintaining the blades' integrity requires constant effort.
7 Wall-Mounted Artillery Paradoxically Works Best In Close Combat
Wall-mounted artillery precedes the creation of the Omni-directional Mobility Gear, but they are unable to kill Titans with the same degree of efficiency as most other weapons.
That said, cannons are excellent options for defense as they can hinder Titan movements by maiming the creatures. Wall-mounted artillery in Paradis employs Grapeshots and High-explosive Shells, both of which are beneficial as long as their targets are close enough to aim at.
6 Anti-Personnel Equipment Is A Cutting-Edge Version Of ODM Gear
The Military Police's Anti-personnel vertical maneuvering equipment is a cutting-edge version of the Scouts' ODM gear, which is completely impractical against Titans because its users are protected by Wall Sheena. Conversely, the APVM equipment works spectacularly on human combatants, even highly trained warriors.
The Military Police utilize single-load shotguns with high caliber ammunition capable of generating incredible stopping force. Kenny Ackerman singlehandedly overwhelms the Scouts with this weapon, only failing against his nephew, Levi.
5 The Special Target Restraining Weapon Prevents Its Targets From Escaping Without Consequence
The Special Target Restraining Weapon has zero offensive potential, but it can immobilize Titans with near-flawless efficacy. The weapon consists of steel tubes contained inside large barrels, shooting dozens of arrow-hooked cables at its target when triggered.
It is used once to capture the Female Titan by piercing her skin with non-detachable hooks and holding her in place like a statue. Annie eventually extricates herself by having her Titan body destroyed, proving that there is no way to escape from this weapon intact.
4 Thunder Spears Are Among The Most Effective Titan Killing Tools Known
The Thunder Spear is Hange Zoë's crowning achievement, an impressive feat considering their scientific brilliance in most areas of technological research. This weapon is two-pronged, and a rope-linked missile is fired with so much force that it breaks through the target Titan's skin, often shattering its crystalline barrier.
When the cable is severed, the missile explodes and destroys the point of contact. In other words, a single Thunder Spear directed at a Titan's nape is more than adequate to bring it down.
3 Airships & Flying Boats Alter The Military Landscape Of The World
Although technically not weapons, airships and flying boats are massive upgrades that alter the military landscape of the world forever. There are a wide range of designs in Attack on Titan, from gas-inflated dirigibles and amphibious aircraft to World War I-esque biplanes.
The Scouts of Paradis reverse engineer airships based on Marleyan design, but the Marleyans are significantly better equipped. In fact, giant blimps are deployed to tackle Eren's Founding Titan threat with a vast quantity of bombs and other incendiary devices.
2 Anti-Titan Artillery Benefits From A 360° Freedom Of Motion
The Mid-East Allied Forces are responsible for the construction of anti-Titan artillery, specifically for use against the Jaw, Armored, Beast, and Cart Titans. The weapon itself resembles a tank affixed to a surface—mobile or otherwise—and packed with ammunition powerful enough to destroy any Titan.
The major advantage of anti-Titan artillery is that it can be rotated around a central axis with incredible speed and flexibility, allowing operators 360° vision. An application of this technology is the anti-Titan rifle used by Gabi Braun to decapitate Eren.
1 There Is No Cure For The Titan Injections
Titan Injections contain a serum that can transform Eldians into Titans. While the specific chemistry is unclear, it's most likely derived from the spinal cords of Titans themselves. The serum is commonly injected into the target's arteries, but it's possible to swallow the substance and obtain a similar result.
Titan serums come in a range of subtypes based on strength factors, and it is particularly essential to ensure that each product is delivered according to the guidelines designed for it. There is no cure for the Titan Injection.
