The Rumbling was the most devastating event in the Attack On Titan universe and officially turned Eren from the series' underdog anti-hero into its most ruthless villain. After mastering the power of the Founding Titan, he released the wall Titans and used them as a weapon to destroy the rest of the world.

In the end, roughly eighty percent of the global population had been eradicated in a matter of days. However, there were several ways to survive the final march of colossal Titans.

10 Underground Bunkers Were A Practical Solution To The Titans' Rampage

The march of the colossal Titans was devastating since there were few places for civilians to hide. However, they seldom considered hunkering down in bomb shelters, a tactic which would have limited casualties as greatly as the bunker's maximum occupancy.

While the Titans were efficient in ruining terrain and making the soil they walked over barren and unusable, they only left an imprint of several feet into the earth. Hiding out in an underground bomb shelter would safely avoid the carnage.

9 The Global Alliance & Hange Both Created An Opening In Eren's Forces That Could Have Been Exploited

The armies of the world were successful in defeating a colossal Titan with the artillery they had on hand. Although they were ultimately eradicated in their failed assault on Eren, this still created an opening in his forces that could have be exploited.

Hange was also able to defeat one of the Titans by hurling a thunder spear at the nape of its neck. Should either of these breaches be identified, it would be more conceivable to navigate through the ranks of monsters and make it to the other side.

8 Living In Paradis Guarantees Safety From The Rumbling

Shiganshina _ Attack on Titan

Despite its checkered past, Paradis is the safest place possible to endure the Rumbling. Eren's Titans are careful not to trample its denizens, meaning that even non-Eldian residents such as Yelena would avoid being crushed.

Although safe from the direct wrath of the Rumbling, there are still other threats to address. Survivors from the Marleyan attack must deal with the pure Titans that Zeke summoned without the benefit of walls to hide behind.

7 The Rumbling Can Be Avoided By Simply Flying Over It

Planes in AOT

Although Eren's assault against humanity was nearly unavoidable, there was a simple solution in overcoming it. As tall as the colossals might have been, there were mostly mindless and could not effectively combat the planes that flew over them.

Therefore, aerial travel virtually guarantees the safety of any passengers privileged enough to have access to it. So long as the aircraft doesn't draw too close to Eren, their lives would be saved (since he could summon a War Hammer or Beast Titan to strike them down if they become careless).

6 It's Possible To Avoid The Titans If Moving Continuously

The Rumbling moved in a straight line around the planet, presumably making a single sweep before Eren's wishes were satisfied. Its casualties were only immense because none were prepared to escape from it.

Should one start at the opposite end of the world, they could outrun the Titans by heading toward the direction they left from. This would place them at ground the colossals have already covered and are less inclined to revisit. Although the landscape would be desolate, this would at least prevent potential survivors from being crushed to death.

5 Staying Close To Mikasa & Her Allies Would Guarantee Survival

Ironically, being near Mikasa is one of the safest places during the Rumbling despite how close she was to Eren and his forces. None of the heroes were killed during the final battle, and they would be able to keep an innocent person safe just as easily.

Like airships or planes, Falco's Titan's back is another safe place, safely out of reach from the colossal Titans Eren commands or the pure Titans recently created using the power of the Founder.

4 Joining The Yeagerists Is An Excellent Decision To Avoid Being Crushed

Alternatively to joining Mikasa, aligning with Floch would be a wise decision in order to survive the Rumbling. Not only are the Yeagerists composed of skilled former Scouts, they are more knowledgeable about their master's plan than the heroes could ever hope to be.

Moreover, the Yeagerists know of the threat of the pure Titans created by Zeke Yeager and have the skills to protect themselves. The only dangers potential recruits face are ironically by the coalition of Scouts and Marleyan forces.

3 Possessing One Of The Titan Shifters Would Increase Your Odds Of Survival

Being a Titan shifter would increase the odds of surviving the Rumbling drastically, even if forced to confront it outside of Paradis. Falco would be able to fly over Eren's monsters effortlessly, the Cart has the stamina necessary to outrun them, and the Armored Titan would be the most likely to survive being stomped on.

The two most capable shifters to survive the Rumbling are the Colossal, who could smash through Eren's ranks to create an opening, and the Founder, who could halt the wall giants outright.

2 It's Possible To Survive The Rumbling Simply By Waiting It Out

The final bastion of humanity presumably contained the remaining twenty percent of people that Eren failed to eradicate. Although their gestures of resistance were insufficient, Mikasa and her allies managed to stop the Rumbling before they could be wiped out.

Should a rugged survivor manage to reach the safe haven, they would only need to wait for the heroes to rescue them. However, it would be prudent to avoid Eldians during this tenuous period because they can be affected by the Founding Titan's power.

1 The Best Way To Survive The Rumbling Is By Defeating Eren Yeager

Eren's titan during the Rumbling

The most surefire way to survive the Rumbling is by confronting and defeating Eren Yeager. Although this might seem like an impossible task, the forces of humanity were capable of causing reasonable damage with tactical bombing runs. In the end, even a single sash of explosives were viable to detach Eren from his skeletal body and make him lose connection with the Founder's power. Killing Eren would dismantle his entire army of colossal Titans and save what remains of humanity.
