The Attack On Titan universe is well known for the durability of its characters. Between impervious skin and miraculous healing powers, the series' strongest individuals are capable of surviving grievous harm. In some cases, their durability has even allowed them to survive the Rumbling.

Despite their individually superb gifts, the fighters' durability varies drastically, which in turn impacts the way they approach combat. It is possible to determine the merits of their power and how they have used it by identifying the characters who can withstand the most damage.

10 Annie Could Harden Parts Of Her Body When Necessary

Annie Leonhart's Female Titan lacked Reiner's skin and Bertholdt's size. Fans assumed that this made her the weakest of the surviving Warrior candidates since she was more vulnerable to Scout blades.

However, Annie is capable of hardening certain parts of her body at select times, which was especially useful when shielding the nape of her neck. Still, she can only concentrate her defenses on one area at a time, which makes her vulnerable when facing multiple opponents.

9 Pieck's Endurance Allows Her To Phase Effortlessly Between Titan Forms

In addition to being small, Pieck cannot harden her Cart Titan whatsoever, making her appear to be the weakest of the titan shifters. However, her endurance compensates for a lack of traditional defenses.

Considering that she can create numerous bodies before tiring (as seen when fighting against Eren's ancient titans during the battle on his back), Pieck's endurance makes her incredibly unpredictable and difficult to defeat. When combined with her speed, she proved one of the most elusive opponents that Paradis had ever faced.

8 Zeke Survived Damage From Levi & A Massive Cannon

Like Pieck, Zeke does not have any hardening to protect himself. His healing factor is also unimpressive and requires him to rest for hours at a time between battles. Nonetheless, his enormous size and resilience to pain provide an entirely unique advantage.

Throughout the series, Zeke survived being repeatedly sliced by the legendary Levi, a direct hit from Pieck's mounted cannons, and even the point-blank impact of a thunder spear. While the Beast Titan does not explicitly provide protection to its user, Zeke's outstanding tenacity allows him to harness it to the fullest of its potential.

7 Reiner's Armor Was Once Thought To Be Unbreakable

As the Armored Titan, Reiner is expected to be durable. In the earliest acts of the series, he lived up to his reputation. Neither cannons nor Scout blades could harm him, which forced Eren to think and fight creatively.

In a constant state of hardness, Reiner easily survived being dog piled by pure titans, beaten to a pulp by Eren, and even having Bertholdt's Colossal Titan collapse directly on top of him. The Armored Titan was also capable of shrugging off modern artillery, as seen through his victory at the battle for Fort Slava.

6 Lara Tybur Defied The Rules Of Titan Shifting

Lara's power worked unlike any other titan shifter's. Her human body was connected to a tether at her giant's feet, which allowed her to control it remotely without risking an attack against the nape.

Not only was the titan shielded by a light and durable carapace, but Lara's human body was also cocooned in an impervious shell. Were it not for Eren's creative use of Porco's jaw, it's unlikely that he would have been able to defeat her during the battle for Liberio.

5 Wall Titans Could Survive The Unmitigated Wrath Of The World's Armies

The Rumbling makes landfall in Attack on Titan

The wall titans were dormant giants that served as Paradis' borders for most of the series. Eren used them when he activated the Rumbling and crush a massive swathe of the population.

Though paling in comparison to the Colossal Titan in both size and ability, wall titans were still remarkably durable. They managed to shrug off the full fury of the planet's armies with relatively few casualties. Additionally, a single titan put the entire allied coalition in grave jeopardy and even cost Hange their life. Fortunately, the heroes did not have to defeat all of them when taking Eren down.

4 Armin's Colossal Titan Imbued Him With Great Durability

Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 7 Colossal Titan

As a Colossal Titan, Armin was inherently more durable than almost every other shifter. Towering at sixty meters tall, he wiped out Marley's entire port in the blink of an eye.

However, Armin is not a natural fighter, and there is evidence to suggest he lacked Bertholdt's defenses. In the final battle against Eren, a single punch sent him reeling and ripped off a significant part of his enhanced body.

3 Bertholdt Was Viewed As A God Of Destruction By Paradis

Bertholdt's Colossal Titan destroys the gate of Shiganshina in Attack on Titan.

Bertholdt had an impressive mastery of his titan form. This was partially on account of his Warrior training as well as his experience with using it. Unlike Armin, he efficiently repelled attackers by releasing scalding steam from his back, producing enough even to deflect thunder spears.

Despite the strength Eren had amassed by the second battle for Shiganshina, he was virtually powerless to defeat Bertholdt in a fair fight. The Scouts soon learned that the only way to overcome the Eldians' "God of Destruction" was through strategy rather than brawn.

2 Rod Reiss Could Only Be Meaningfully Harmed From Internal Damage

Rod Reiss Titan Crawling Toward the Wall

Rod Reiss' titan form may have been imperfect, but it was almost unstoppable. Gargantuan and terrifying in equal measure, the Scouts were completely unable to harm him due to the vast quantities of steam he emitted.

The only way to defeat Rod was by capitalizing on the gaping hole in his face. Even when doused with water, Eren was the only hero that could reach him without burning up due to his titan form. It took a massive cache of explosives to weaken Rod enough for Historia's killing blow.

1 Eren Yeager Became A Monster Beyond Human Imagination

Eren transforms into the Founding Titan in Attack On Titan.

Eren's Founding Titan form easily rendered him the most durable character of the series. Despite being reduced to a skeleton, his body stretched well into the sky and could shrug off explosives better than wall titans. He was so massive that Bertholdt's Colossal fit snugly on his back and temporarily helped him repel invaders.

It took a carefully placed sash of deadly explosives in order to sever Eren's head from his neck. Even disconnected from the Founder, he could still manifest as a Colossal Titan too powerful for anyone to defeat alone.
