Koei Tecmo has made it official, launching an announcement trailer for an Attack on Titan video game for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

Although there have been other games based on Hajime Isayama's bestselling manga and its hit anime adaptation -- a series of Blu-ray disc "visual novels," Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains for Nintendo 3DS and the Attack on Titan: Howl Toward Freedom mobile game -- this will be the first release for both handheld and home consoles.

The teaser, below, confirms the game's 2016 release in Japan, North America and Europe. Presumably that will be early 2016, as the initial ad included this week with the manga's 17th volume indicated a winter launch.

Developed by Omega Force, the Koei Tecmo subsidiary behind the Warriors series, the game is referred to as "Attack on Titan (Working Title)," suggesting it will acquire a colon and subtitle before its release (a la Attack  on Titan: Humanity in Chains).

"I am very happy to reveal that we have started developing a new action game based on the phenomenally successful Attack on Titan," Hisashi Koinuma, president of Koei Tecmo Games, said in a statement. "Having evolved from a manga/anime series to an internationally recognized brand, we were enchanted by the opportunity to create our own take on humanity’s last stand against these overwhelmingly powerful beings, the Titans. Although there is still a long wait until this game is released in 2016, our studios are already pouring all of their passion and excitement into it and we hope to reveal more information soon! In the meantime, prepare for battle! The Titans are coming.”
