Crunchyroll has released a new trailer to promote the upcoming premiere of the second half of Attack on Titan's final season.

The emotional trailer looks back on the journey that Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert have been on since the series' start. The trailer recalls how the trio met as children and grew up together, their first encounter with the monstrous titans during the fall of Shiganshina, and then runs through the many twists and turns that have happened in the years since that now threaten to turn the three childhood friends against each other.

The first episode in Attack on Titan's final run will premiere on Jan. 9. The last half of the final season will be available for streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu. Crunchyroll will simulcast the series with subtitles in eight languages to over 200 countries globally. Funimation's simulcast will be available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Australia and New Zealand.

Anticipation for the series' grand finale has been building ever since Hajime Isayama's original manga came to end in early 2021. While the manga's finale received a mixed reception, it hasn't stopped the companies involved in the anime series' production from hyping up the show's upcoming climax in a number of ways: publisher Kadokawa brought a massive Attack on Titan art gallery to numerous anime conventions across the country last fall, and animation studio MAPPA has released a number of trailers for the series over the last few months. A poster image for the new episodes was also released, and like Crunchyroll's latest trailer, the illustration offers a nostalgic look back at the many horrors that Eren Jaeger has seen over the course of the series.

Attack on Titan first premiered in 2009. Despite initially being rejected by Japan's top manga magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, Isayama's bleak epic is now one of the most successful manga series of all time, with over 100 million copies in circulation around the globe. The Attack on Titan manga ended several months ago, but Isayama has yet to announce what his next project will be. The author and artist recently contributed some fan art to celebrate the release of The Heroic Legend of Arslan's 100th volume.

Previous seasons of the anime are available for streaming from Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu, while the complete manga series is now available in English from Kodansha USA.
