Attack on Titan Requiem, a fan-based project to redo the divisive ending to Hajime Isayama's popular manga series, will also release an animated adaptation of its version of the story's climax.

AoT Requiem's rewrite of the last three chapters of Isayama's manga will now also expand into an animated project. In a recent interview with Anime Senpai, a representative for the project revealed a few details about Requiem's animated adaptation. "We don't have a definite date as of now," the representative said when asked about a release date for the animation. "Our team is making sure we’re producing quality animation and that would take a lot of time. We will keep you updated on our socials." The new series will be released episodically and will feature an art style that is based on the work of Wit Studio, who animated the first three seasons of the Attack on Titan. Both halves of the fourth and final season of the anime were moved to Jujutsu Kaisen studio MAPPA, which was another element of the franchise that was met with a mixed reaction from the fans. While production on the new animation has already begun, the team is still actively recruiting new animators, colorists, background painters, and more.

The highly anticipated finale of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan was released in early 2021 and was met with a mixed reaction from fans and professional critics alike. Some felt it provided an emotional and heartfelt ending to Eren and Mikasa's story, while others were disappointed with what they felt were sudden shifts in certain characters' personalities and motives, a loss of the series' key themes, and overall rushed pacing.

The website for the Attack on Titan Requiem project makes a case for its alternate ending with the following statement:

The story began with a simple premise set in a world where humanity was terrorized by giant humanoid beings, until the story gradually progresses to tackle very sensitive political and social themes like war, natalism, racism, cycle of hatred, psychological traumas, family, and child abuse. There are also some elements that reflect real, historical events so a great many of these issues really hit close to home.

After the manga finale, many fans around the world voiced great disappointed and concern when such deep and relatable issues were not properly addressed. In the canon ending, these serious and complex themes, character development, and world building were forgotten or reduced to romance and some comedic scenes which goes against the established darker and more serious tone of the series. Hence the mission of AOTNOREQUIEM is to give those who were unsatisfied with the ending, who grew up with with series and held it close to their hearts a proper closure and also a fitting and satisfactory conclusion to what we all believed was a modern masterpiece.

Requiem began with the goal with redoing the final three chapters of the manga. The first part of the Requiem manga is currently available on the project's website.

The official Attack on Titan manga is distributed and localized in English by VIZ Media. The second half of the fourth and final season of the anime is scheduled to air in 2022. The first three seasons, as well as part 1 of Season 4, are available for streaming on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation.
