Attack on Titan First Published in 2009

Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga began serialization in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in September 2009 and concluded with 34 tankōbon volumes in April 2021. Wit Studio later adapted the series into an anime for three seasons, with MAPPA taking over for the fourth and final season. The studio divided the series' last installment into parts, with the second airing from January to April 2022 and the third sometime in 2023.

Attack on Titan follows Eren Yeager, who vows revenge against the Titans after one kills his mother following an invasion of his hometown. Consequently, Eren joins the military alongside his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and best friend Armin Arlert. However, the plot complicates after Eren's discovery that he can transform into an Attack Titan. Therefore, the Survey Corps often employ his ability in battles.

In November 2022, Isayama made his first-ever appearance in the United States at Anime NYC. During the mangaka's panel, he apologized for the controversial ending of Attack on Titan. "I still struggle on this point," Isayama answered through a translator. "I'm very sorry about that." However, the audience showed nothing but support, bringing him to the brink of tears. "Carrying heavy feelings, I was down for a long time until yesterday when I met fans during the signing. Fans told me the ending was great and that they loved the ending, and it made me happy, and coming to New York was a great experience for me," Isayama said.

Attack on Titan's Intense Animation Process

In December 2022, NHK's television program 100-Camera Stories went to MAPPA to give a behind-the-scenes look at the animation process behind Attack on Titan's action sequences, highlighting the Beast Titan. While the sneak peek of the final season excited fans, some comments pointed out how exhausted the animators looked. Apart from Attack on Titan, MAPPA has also worked on Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and In This Corner of the World.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 premieres in 2023. The Attack on Titan manga series is available in select retailers and online platforms.
