Eren Yeager is best known as the main protagonist of Attack on Titan, but his role throughout the franchise has changed dramatically. At the start of the series, he dedicated his life to eradicating all Titans from the world and trained day and night to become a member of the Survey Corps. As the storyline progressed, Eren made an abundance of disastrous decisions, such as killing many civilians, including children, after he infiltrated Marley.

Although Eren often ranks at the top of popularity polls and possesses many great qualities, he has managed to ruin his likability thanks to his erratic behavior and questionable actions.

10 When He Relentlessly Announced That He Would Eradicate All Titans

Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan

After his mother was devoured by a Titan, Eren swore he would wipe out every last one of them time and time again. Although his anger and determination were valid, his emotionally impulsive and brat-like attitude constantly ruffled the feathers of his fellow peers. Jean, in particular, found Eren's outlook unbearably irritating and claimed that although Eren acts tough, he's actually scared out of his mind. The tension Eren created eventually lead to a violent but hilarious altercation between himself and Jean.

9 When He Told Mikasa To Cut Her Hair

Mikasa Ackerman

Early on in the series, Eren is shown to never truly appreciate Mikasa's loyalty towards him and often found it more bothersome than helpful. For example, after Eren caused a commotion with Jean, Mikasa attempted to console him but she was met with a dismissive and rude response.

Instead of appreciating her help at the time, Eren told her that she should worry more about cutting her hair so it doesn't get tangled during their ODM training.

8 When He Kept Getting Kidnapped

Plot to capture the Female Titan _ Attack on Titan

An ongoing joke within the Attack on Titan fandom is Eren's habit of repeatedly being kidnapped, while his comrades are forever coming to his aide.

In season 1, the Female Titan caught him momentarily, but her attempt was crushed by the Ackermans. In season 2, Reiner and Bertholdt seemingly succeeded in their mission to abduct him, but the Survey Corps foiled their plans. Then in season 3, Eren was kidnapped under Rod Reiss's orders, and yet again his friends risked their lives to save him from doom.

7 When He Didn't Kiss Mikasa

Eren fell into an emotional state of despair after he failed to save Hannes from being eaten by the same Titan that ate his mother. Mikasa crumbled at the sight of a broken Eren and couldn't bear to hear him talk about how useless he was, so she began expressing her feelings towards him.

While she gave him multiple reasons to believe he wasn't as useless as he claimed, she slowly leaned in as if to kiss him, but sadly for Mikasa, Eren sat up before she could seal the deal. The upside of this is that if Eren hadn't moved out the way, he couldn't have saved them from being eaten by Titans.

6 When He Laughed After Asking Connie About Sasha's Final Words

Eren reacts to Sasha's death

Fans know too well that Attack on Titan never shies away from killing off a prominent character. Despite this, Sasha's heartbreaking death still came as a shock.

After learning that Gabi had fatally shot Sasha, Armin and Mikasa rushed to her aide and laid beside her in disbelief until she died. Once Connie informed Eren of Sasha's death, he asked what her final words were, and Connie informed him that it was "meat". Rather than expressing any sadness, Eren laughed instead.

5 When He Insulted Mikasa And Beat Armin

Eren Attacks Armin

Armin could barely contain his anger after Eren brutally insulted Mikasa by announcing that he's always hated her and that all her life she has just been strung along by the whims of her Ackerman blood.

While Eren continued his hurtful rant, Armin launched himself at his childhood best friend and punched him straight in the face. In retaliation, Eren told Armin that they'd never fought before because they were completely unevenly matched, and he beat and bloodied Armin with a string of punches.

4 When He Aggressively Confronted Hange

Hange approached Eren after watching him stare into a mirror as he repeatedly said, "fight, fight, fight". As she questioned him on why he was doing something so strange, Eren fell into a rage. He grabbed Hange through his cell bars and made it clear that he could break out of captivity at any moment after receiving the power of the Warhammer Titan.

3 When He Manipulated His Father Into Killing The Reiss Family

AOT manga Eren manipulates his father Grisha Yeager

Fans spent years thinking Grisha Yeager made the decision to murder the Reiss family on his own. However, the manga eventually revealed that Eren was behind their murder all along.

While Zeke and Eren traveled through their father's memories, Grisha was shown to hesitate at the idea of killing the family in order to obtain the Founding Titan, until Eren managed to manipulate him into doing so.

2 When He Pushed His Friends Away

Adult Eren Putting His Coat On

Although the truth behind Eren's shift in behavior became apparent as the story unfolded, his friends were initially left in the dark. His attitude had gone from a determined hero who wanted to save all humans to that of someone who mercilessly killed children without giving it a second thought. This meant that he left Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, and the rest of his former comrades agonizing over his sudden personality change and anxiously searching for reasons why.

1 When He Started The Rumbling

Titans Running Through Marley During The Rumbling

Once Eren successfully convinced Ymir Fritz to take his side over Zeke's, he started the Rumbling, a catastrophic event that involved Colossal Titans marching across the world, crushing everything in their path.

His reasons for wiping out 80% of humanity were justified in his own mind - he truly believed it was the only way to save his friends and fellow Eldians from both the power of the Titans and the rest of the world.
