'Attack on Titan' debuts same-day digital release in English

Beginning today, new chapters of Hajime Isayama's blockbuster manga Attack on Titan will be available in English on comiXology and the Amazon Kindle Store the same day they're released in print in Japan.

Chapter 80 went on sale this morning on the digital platforms, along with all previous chapters of the dark fantasy series.

The deal with Kodansha Comics, the U.S. imprint of Japanese publishing giant Kodansha Ltd., includes the simultaneous publication of 16 other manga titles on a weekly, biweekly, monthly and semi-regular basis.

Weekly: As the Gods Will: The Second Series; Fairy Tail; Fuuka; GTO Paradise Lost; The Seven Deadly Sins; UQ Holder; and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

Biweekly: Inuyashiki; and Space Brothers

Monthly: Ajin: Demi-Human; Attack on Titan; Kiss Him, Not Me; The Heroic Legend of Arslan; Magasuki; Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Side: P4; and Sweetness and Lightning

Semi-regularly: Princess Jellyfish

"A simul-pub initiative has never been done like this before—," Alvin Lu, general manager of Kodansha Advanced Media, said in a statement. "It’s effectively a new format and it’s made possible by digital publishing.”
