Every Attack On Titan fan remembers how the series began. The first moments were the reason the manga became as popular as it is. The people of Shiganshina had not expected to lose their homes, their friends, their families, and even their lives that day. But the protagonists of the series knew that the titans would be able to break into the walls if they let their guard down. This would become a reality as the Colossal Titan appeared above the wall protecting the Eldians, becoming the most recognizable titan in the series.

As readers learned more about the Colossal Titan, they also saw how it, as well as its inheritors, had changed. But it can be quite a challenge to keep track of the stories of all Nine Titans, so fans should remember specific things about the Colossal Titan.

10 Unique Transformation

All of the Nine Titan's transformations are fun for fans to experience. They get excited when they see their favorite characters bite themselves as a bolt of lightning strikes down, letting readers know that an important battle is going to take place. However, the Colossal Titan's transformation has more of an impact than the others. It has the ability to cause an explosion when it transforms, which has been used to kill opponents before a battle even begins. This power can be controlled, allowing inheritors of the Colossal Titan to decide how much power they want to use at once.

9 Steam

Just as the Colossal Titan has the power to change its transformation, it can also use its steam to fight, unlike the other titans. If anyone were to get to close to the Colossal Titan's neck, they can be knocked back due to how powerful the steam is. This power has been used in the series a lot, making it very difficult for the Survey Corps to get close to their enemy.

8 Bertholdt Hoover

Bertholdt and Reiner

Bertholdt Hoover was an Eldian that joined Marley's Warrior Unit. Like most of the other children in the Warrior Unit, he wanted to become an honorable Marleyan and considered the people of Paradis to be devils. Though he would end up changing his mind about them after he befriended the members of the 104th Cadet Corps, he was always loyal to his home. He ended up becoming the Colossal Titan and quickly mastered its abilities.

7 Marley's Goal

Reiner and Bertholdt

Marley and Eldia were in war for hundreds of years before Marley took control of the Colossal Titan, as well as six of the other Nine Titans. To defeat Eldia and obtain the Founding Titan, the last of the Nine Titans in Eldia's possession, they sent Bertholdt, along with Marcel, Annie, and Reiner, to go to Paradis.

They were supposed to steal the Founding Titan and return to Marley. However, their plan failed shortly after the children went to the island. Marcel was eaten by Ymir and Reiner convinced the others to continue with their mission. This would end up resulting in Bertholdt's death.

6 Other Colossal Titans

Protecting Paradis from the rest of the world, Karl Fritz used the Founding Titan to create three walls. He controlled other Colossal Titan to harden themselves and remain still. The majority of the people in Paradis were unaware that they were being protected by the creatures they saw as a threat until part of the wall broke, showing them the face of another Colossal Titan. These would play an important role in the manga as Eren is currently using them to destroy Marley and the other countries.

5 Not The Biggest

Rod Reiss

In the beginning of the series, the Colossal Titan was the largest of every known titan shifter. However, as the series progressed, things changed. After failing to convince Historia to become a titan and take the Founding Titan back from Eren, Rod turned himself into the biggest threat Paradis had seen at the time. He ended up being defeated by his own daughter, proving that Historia was worthy of being the Eldian's queen. In the recent chapters of the manga, Eren has obtain a new form of his titan, which is even larger than Rod Reiss was. The Colossal Titan looks like an average person compared to Eren's new form.

4 Eaten By His Own Successor

Armin Arlert surrounded by Connie Springer, Eren Jeager, and Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan

After Armin nearly died due to his plan to defeat Bertholdt, Levi turned him into a titan and he ate his predecessor, giving the Colossal Titan back to the Eldians. This was foreshadowed for a long time.

After his former friends spoke to him and Reiner, Bertholdt told them that he didn't want to hurt them but that he cannot stop. He said "Someone has to get this blood on their hands." Armin was shown in this panel, which fans were amazed by when experiencing that moment again. This was one example of Attack On Titan's obvious yet phenomenal foreshadowing.

3 Armin Arlert

Armin was shocked to learn that he became the Colossal Titan and that his comrades saved him instead of Erwin. With the Colossal Titan back in Eldia's hands, Armin fought against the Marleyans and was able to see Bertholdt's memories. His titan looked very different compared to Bertholdt's but they are similar in many ways.

2 Falling For The Female Titan

Annie and Armin in Attack on Titan season 4

Both Bertholdt and Armin have had a crush on Annie, the Female Titan. While Annie and Bertholdt grew up together, he secretly fell in love with her. Though he denied it, everyone around him knew his true feelings and used them against him after they captured her. Armin also fell for Annie, despite being on opposite sides of a war for so long. After becoming the Colossal Titan, Armin visited her a lot and cared about her even more due to having Bertholdt's memories.

1 Not Much Of A Fighter

Bertholdt regretting his actions

Another similarity between the two inheritors is that they would usually rather not fight. Despite being physically strong, Bertholdt only fought when he felt like he needed to and would often let Reiner make decisions for him. He didn't want to fight until the end of his arc, deciding that he could accept whatever outcome the war between Eldia and Marley would have.

Though Armin isn't physically strong, he has always been mentally strong. His comrades have relied on his plans countless times, eventually leading him to become the commander of the Survey Corps. He always tried to find a peaceful resolution to every problem he faced and tried to understand his opponents. Though they were enemies, the inheritors of the Colossal Titan have a lot more in common than most believe.
