The kindhearted and devoted heroine has facts about her character many fans might not be aware of. In fact, many of these facts have been ambiguously hinted at, in the anime, which is why this series is genius. Without further ado, here are 10 facts about Mikasa you didn’t know. Seeing that season 3 has yet to be released, this list article will only cover events to the end of season 3.

10 She’s One Of The Heaviest Female Characters

This may be alarming to most, but Mikasa weighs about 150 lbs. Considering the fact, she’s only 5’7, which means she must be all muscle. She is the heaviest known female in the series, outweighing even most of the men in the Scouts. The only two men she doesn’t outweigh are Bertolt and Reiner, and they're both over 6ft tall.

9 She Imitates Levi’s Attack

Mikasa always attempts to increase her skill set. During combat training in the earlier arcs of the series, she and Eren notice Annie implementing fighting techniques they haven't seen. They both want to learn from her, as a result.

After seeing Levi use his signature spinning attack on a Titan, Mikasa attempts to use it on the Female Titan (Annie), after she takes Eren. Fans may not have noticed this at first glance, given the situation. Mikasa is using the technique frantically. Moreover, she may not be aware she is using it. It’s still impressive she able to execute this move.

8 Her, Levi, And Kenny Are Descendants Of The Ackerman Clan

Levi asks if Kenny is a relative of Mikasa's

During the ‘Sin” episode, Levi asks if Mikasa and Kenny are related, after realizing they both share the same surname. Mikasa and Kenny having the same last name is not a coincidence. Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny are descendants of the Ackerman clan. Later in the season, Levi finds out he is also an Ackerman. Because of their clan's enhanced strength, they were special guards for the royal family.

In fact, during the third season of AoT, Kenny asks his late grandfather why the Ackerman's are so hated, after revealing how they use to be personal guards of the royal family. His grandfather laments it’s due to their people do not possess the same bloodline as the others, within the walls. Therefore, their memories cannot be manipulated by the Founding Titan’s power. This resulted in the king executing them, along with this Asian clan, out of fear of them revealing secrets outside of the walls.

7 She Graduated 1st In Her Class From The Training Corps

Prodigy doesn’t describe this woman; Mikasa graduates first in her class, during the 104th Training Corps. Considering how powerful she is, this isn't a surprise, however, it's still something worth mentioning. They’re many talented scouts from that class, three of them being, Annie, Reiner, and Bertolt, who are experienced soldiers.

6 Her Other Ancestry

It often doesn’t get brought up a lot in the anime, but Mikasa is half-Asian, on her mother's side. Her mother is part of the Asian clan Kenny’s grandfather‘s referring to, in the previous entry. She is the only known survivor of her clan, seeing that her mom was murder by these traffickers, earlier in the series. Furthermore, her mother's ancestry encompasses strong fighting capabilities, which means Mikasa comes from two powerful clans.

5 She Can’t Turn Into A Titan

Because she is not a descendant of Eren's race of people, Mikasa is unable to turn into a Titan. The anime doesn’t explain this in detail, instead, it alludes to it. Mikasa is part of the aforementioned Ackerman and Asian clan, therefore, she cannot turn into Titan. Again, this can get looked over, because the characters never address it.

4 There’s A Price On Her Head, On The Black Market

Eren isn't the only character in AoT that’s being sought after, Mikasa is, as well. Since she’s the last known living survivor of the Asian clan, she fetches for a high price on the black market.

This is made apparent in the first season of the series, during Mikasa’s backstory. One of the trafficker's states due to her rarity, she sells for a high price, on the black market. More than likely, many may still seek after her, in the present time of the story.

3 Her Awakened Titan Powers Are Foreshadowed In Episode 6

During the Uprising arc, Levi asks Mikasa if she’s ever experienced a time in her life where she felt stronger than usual, after wondering if she was related to Kenny. She laments she felt this surge of power in episode 6 when the traffickers were attempting to kidnap her. Levi then replies he and Kenny have also had the same experience.   Levi describes this power as knowing what needs to be done.

2 The Origin Of Her Name

Mikasa’s name derives from a Japanese Navy battleship; the name also translates to “Three Bamboo Hats”. Series creator, Hajime Isayama, states he chose the name, Mikasa, out of believing that a series with a female character named after a warship, tends to be successful. Guess he was right, considering this series has become one of the top-selling manga worldwide.

1 She’s Tough To Draw

Fans love the unique design of Mikasa Ackerman, but they may be unaware of the time that goes into the creation of her character design. In the past, Isayama has stated Mikasa is the most difficult character to draw. Given the fact she encompasses unique features from the characters of the series, this does make sense.
