Communications provider AT&T is joining the growing number of media companies offering access to free content for people struggling through self-imposed quarantine. Although there has been talk of urging the public to ease social distancing, the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic remains a compelling fear among the general public, and media companies are taking notice.

Beginning March 26, AT&T will be opening up premium, subscription-based channels like HBO, Cinemax, Epix and Starz to customers, Deadline reported. All of these channels exist under AT&T's Warner Media umbrella.

For customers who do not already subscribe to these channels, they will be made available to customers of U-Verse, DirecTV, AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now.

The premium channels will be opened up on a staggered basis, meaning that they will be available for different periods over a certain period of time. Starz will air for non-subscribers from March 26 to April 4 just for DirecTV and U-Verse customers, Epix will be made free April 4 to April 16 and HBO and Cinemax can be accessed from April 17 to April 20.

Besides these channels' movie libraries, AT&T subscribers can while away their days of social distancing watching Season 10 of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Season 3 of Westworld on HBO, the debut of Belgravia on Epix, Season 3 of American Gods and part one of The Spanish Princess on Starz, and the first season of Warrior on Cinemax, among others.

AT&T and Warner Media are not the only ones reacting to the quarantine by giving potential viewers a taste of their media offerings. CBS All Access is offering a month's free accessAMC's affiliate networks such as Shudder and Sundance are extending their free trial periods from seven days to 30 days, Amazon's Audible has made hundreds of audiobooks free and Amazon's Comixology has extended the free trial for Comixology Unlimited for 60 days. Even Pornhub has offered up a free premium membership.
