Colin Trevorrow's next film project will see him tackling the mythical city of Atlantis. The director is developing the sci-fi thriller Atlantis for Universal Pictures, which distributes his Jurassic World films.

Atlantis in this film is described as "a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India, and Oceania." It is also referred to as "a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology."

In addition to directing the film, Trevorrow developed the story with Bridge of Spies writer Matt Chapman. Dante Harper, who recently wrote the script for Gareth Edwards' upcoming sci-fi film Forever, will pen the screenplay for Atlantis. Trevorrow had been working on the story since 2018. He wanted to let his creative team develop the world before writing the script.

Trevorrow is scheduled to restart production on Jurassic World: Dominion soon. That film, which he directed and co-wrote with his longtime collaborator Derek Connolly, had production suspended due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Universal will reportedly spend $5 million on safety protocols for filming to resume.

Jurassic World: Dominion stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Jake Johnson, and Omar Sy along with Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum from the Jurassic Park trilogy. The film arrives in theaters on June 11, 2021.
