Assassin's Creed Valhalla has become one of Ubisoft's highest-grossing titles to date, and the game continues to enjoy fan and critical acclaim across all platforms. After years of iterative development and subtle changes that Ubisoft has been introducing to the franchise since the release of Assassin's Creed Origins, Valhalla's fine-tuned formula stands as an example that enhanced accessibility and balanced gameplay can make a difference. The latest DLC, Dawn of Ragnarök, further attests to this progress.

The developers introduced numerous quality-of-life changes to pave the path for Dawn of Ragnarök before its official release. Ubisoft's endeavors to continually tease the fans with the biggest expansion in the history of the Assassin's Creed series were hardly unfounded, as the newly released Dawn of Ragnarök delivers on its promises. With a brand new storyline, side-quests, optional activities, loot, and equipment, this lengthy expansion is sure to keep the players glued to their screen for at least 30 hours.

Dawn of Ragnarök embraces Assassin's Creed Valhalla's impressive accessibility features and allows the players to enjoy its content in multiple ways. Aside from the benefit of being seamlessly incorporated into the game's extended campaign, the DLC is accessible as a standalone expansion as well. To partake in Valhalla's latest plot and experience the world through the eyes of Odin (or Havi), new and old players have three options to choose from, each with its perks and drawbacks.

For players with an existing save file, a quest titled "Restless Dreams" should appear under the Ravensthorpe section in the quest log after they install Dawn of Ragnarök. This will take Eivor back to England, where they awake under a tree. Before Eivor can proceed, however, players will have to meet certain conditions if they are behind on their encampment upgrades.

First and foremost, players should focus on getting Ravensthorpe to level three, as this will unlock a quest in which Eivor welcomes seer Valka to the encampment. After completing "A Wise Friend" and building the Seer's Hut, Valka's questline will expand. Since the following quest, "In Dreams," is related to the main campaign and not relevant to the expansion, players should talk to Valka and continue with "Restless Dreams" instead. The seer will then have Eivor create a ritual circle that will send them to their next waking dream, effectively marking the beginning of the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion.

Players who have reached the recommended power level of 340 can interact with the ritual circle and spontaneously enter the mythological realm, Svartalfheim, where they will embark on the expansion's new journey. Conversely, players who do not meet the power level requirements will be given the option to boost Eivor's power level and stats first. They will also receive a loaned gear set of Mythical quality and level two Abilities to help them face the DLC's challenges head-on. The temporary boost is optional, as it comes with the possibility of altering the intended experience later on because all looted items, upgrades, XP, and skill points earned will carry over into the main save file upon returning to England.

If the players do not wish to tamper with their save file or have not had the chance to experience Valhalla's main story yet, they can access Dawn of Ragnarök from the main menu by opting for a New Game and selecting the DLC. As this is the most straightforward method that does not build on previous in-game progress or require additional preparation, the system will automatically adjust Eivor's power level, abilities, and equipment for players who choose to go this route. That said, the pre-upgraded character is only available in the expansion, and players will have to replay Dawn of Ragnarök should they wish to acquire its endgame gear after completing the bas game's campaign.
