Details have reportedly surfaced regarding a canceled Assassin's Creed spinoff, apparently dubbed Project Titans while in development.

Details about Project Titans were initially shared anonymously on 4chan before being posted to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, a subreddit focused on unofficial news about video games by user u/ResponsibilityTrue74. The initial 4chan post was written by an individual claiming to have worked on the game, but it has since been archived. A screenshot of the 4chan post was shared in the comments of the Reddit post.

According to the anonymous 4chan user claiming to have been a developer on Project Titans, the game would have been inspired by Monster Hunter, with players taking on the role of a beast-tracking assassin to take down different creatures from throughout history. Unlike most Assassin's Creed games, the protagonist would not be using the Animus to step into a past event, but would instead use it to inhabit an entirely new artificial experience.

Project Titans would have reportedly deviated from traditional Assassin's Creed games in several ways. Instead of taking on the role of one specific assassin, players would apparently be given the opportunity to create their own character. The monster-hunting mechanics outlined in the 4chan post sound significantly different from the usual melee and stealth combat of the main series. Project Titans would reportedly tie itself to the main series with a few pieces of iconic technology like the Animus and appearances from a couple of recognizable characters like Assassin's Creed Odyssey protagonists Alexios and Kassandra.

While Project Titans was scrapped in development, the Assassin's Creed series is certainly not hurting for new content. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the most recent mainline title, has continued to receive post-launch support over the last two years. A live-service Assassin's Creed game, titled Assassin's Creed Infinity, is currently in development, and will reportedly act as a platform for new Assassin's Creed stories going forward. Other Assassin's Creed titles, like a virtual reality spinoff and a smaller game focused on Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Basim, have been rumored and leaked but not officially announced.

It's impossibe to determine whether or not anything said in the now-archived 4chan post is even remotely accurate. Since Project Titans was reportedly canceled before it was even officially announced, and since the post was uploaded anonymously, nothing stated within can be verified. However, if the post is at all accurate, it sounds like Assassin's Creed fans missed out on a Monster Hunter-style adventure set in the series' expansive universe.
