Riverdale Star Ashleigh Murray Joins Katy Keene Spinoff

RIverdale Josie

Riverdale star Ashleigh Murray will be reprising her role as Josie McCoy (of Josie and the Pussycats fame) in the series' upcoming spinoff Katy Keene.

In Katy Keene, which is takes place after the events of Riverdale, a now 20-something Josie will embark on a journey to New York City in an attempt to make it in the music industry. Joining her on this quest for the big time will be the titular fashionista herself, as well as two more iconic Archie Comics characters.

It was first revealed late last month that a pilot for Katy Keene had been ordered by The CW. According to Deadline, Murray will be exiting Riverdale if the pilot is ordered to series.

The details of Murray's involvement in Katy Keene also help elaborate on a previous statement from network president Mark Pedowitz, in which he explained that the new show would be set "years after Riverdale High School" and that any returning Riverdale characters "will be older."

That being said, there are absolutely no plans for an actual crossover between Katy Keene and Riverdale, much like how the latter has already largely been kept separate from its Netflix sister series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Katy Keene is written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, who will executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Archie's Jon Goldwater. Maggie Kiley is set to direct the pilot.
