Artist Duncan Rouleau gets into your head in Dec. with “The Nightmarist”

Official Press Release

Los Angeles, CA — Adding to its growing line of acclaimed graphic novels, Active Images brings readers The Nightmarist, an original graphic novel written and illustrated by Duncan Rouleau. The Nightmarist ($12.95, ISBN: 0-9766761-8-4, 140 pages, black and white interior, color cover) ships this December and is featured in this month’s Previews catalog (p. 202, OCT052669F). Check out the cover at

The Nightmarist, a dark horror fantasy of existential proportions, has already been optioned by Paramount; a screenplay has been completed and the film is currently in development.

“I love stories that challenge the lines of reality,” said Duncan Rouleau. “Plus, a strong character like Beth, tormented by dark and strange external forces feeding on her own internal struggles, made this a fun book to write and illustrate. Then there’s working with Richard Starkings and the fine folk at Comicraft and Active Images. That’s always a privilege.”

When a mysterious figure calling himself The Nightmarist appears in Beth Sorenson’s dreams, claiming to protect her from forces plotting to twist her will, Beth’s reality begins to crack. Paranoia and suspicion rise and the support of her friends, family and psychiatrist are called into question. Haunted by horrific visions, while both awake and asleep, Beth must decide—has she gone crazy or have her dreams become ground zero in a battle for the future of mankind? Can she trust The Nightmarist?

Her choices may cost more than her soul.

Duncan Rouleau has been a professional artist for many years. His comic book and graphic novel work has included his own M. Rex, Superman in Action Comics (#779 to present), X-Factor and Wolverine. Duncan is also known for storyboarding a number of feature films including Bram Stokers Dracula (Directed by Francis Ford Coppola). More information about Duncan can be found at
