With the landmark issue Detective Comics #1000 set to debut in March, Hong Kong artist Stanley "Artgerm" Lau is the latest artist to debut his variant for the massive anthology issue full of writers and artist celebrating the 80th anniversary of Batman's debut in Detective Comics #27.
On his Twitter, Artgem revealed his variant cover for the milestone issue, which will be released in three different versions.
Here is my Artgerm Collectibles variant cover for Detective Comics 1000. It comes with 3 versions (Standard, Golden Age, Virgin). Preorder will begin 2nd Feb 6PM EST at https://t.co/1azQl9EizQ #detective1000 #detectivecomics1000 pic.twitter.com/DdCPvQY3Yl— Stanley Artgerm™ Lau (@Artgerm) January 30, 2019
The standard cover depicts modern versions of Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman, the Gotham City Sirens, with the grim Dark Knight and Gotham City in the background.
The Golden Age cover removes Batman and re-imagines the three beautiful Gotham rogues within the classic yellow background and red and white Detective Comics banner that first introduced Batman back in 1939 on the cover of Detective Comics #27. The virgin cover is largely the same as the Standard cover, sans logo, with a blue background and shading that indicates a more modern Gotham City.
Lau is a Hong Kong-based digital artists who has quickly become one of Marvel and DC's most in-demand cover artist.
After launching in 1937 and serving as one of Batman's primary titles for all eight decades of his existence, Detective Comics is only the second DC title to hit the 1000 issue mark, after Action Comics#1000 was published last year.
DC Comics will also release variant covers for the book from the likes of Bill Sienkiewicz, Steve Rude, Michael Cho, Jim Steranko, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Miller, Tim Sale, Jock, Greg Capullo and Bruce Timm. There's also a wraparound cover by Jim Lee, Scott Williams and Alex Sinclair.
Detective Comics #1000 goes on sale March 27, 2019.
