Stanley “Artgerm” Lau today unveiled his variant cover for the upcoming Catwoman #3, which features a profile of Gotham's most notorious cat burglar in an artful black dress. According to Lau, the dress was designed by artist Joëlle Jones and, once he saw it, he just knew he had to take a crack at it, too.

Catwoman #3 revolves around Selina Kyle’s ongoing battle with a mysterious copycat who has framed her for the death of a police officer. The issue will see the copycat’s identity revealed and her backstory explained. A synopsis of the upcoming issue teases that the copycat’s story will be “unlike anything Selina’s run into before.”

Catwoman #3 will be written and illustrated by Jones, who will also provide the cover for the issue. Recently, Jones teased an upcoming Catwoman panel on her Instagram, which shows the titular Gotham antihero reclining in luxe art deco splendor. Aside from Catwoman, Jones is perhaps best known for her work on Dark Horse Comics’ Lady Killer, which ran from 2015 until 2017. Lau is best known for his frequent cover work, which has spanned Marvel and DC Comics and garnered him a sizable fanbase.

DC Comics’ Catwoman #3 goes on sale Sept. 5.
