Disney's live-action adaptation of Eoin Colfer's best-selling young adult book, Artemis Fowl, will skip a theatrical release, instead debuting exclusively on Disney+.

"With audiences largely unable to attend theatres in the current environment, we are thrilled to offer the premiere of Artemis Fowl on Disney+," Disney+ President of Content & Marketing Ricky Strauss said in a statement. "Director Kenneth Branagh and his spectacular cast take viewers right into the vibrant, fantasy world of the beloved book, which fans have been waiting to see brought to life onscreen for years. It’s great family entertainment that is the perfect addition to Disney+’s summer lineup."

Artemis Fowl was originally scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 29, but the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused numerous films to shift their release dates, including Mulan and the upcoming slate of Marvel Studios movies such as Black Widow and Eternals.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Artemis Fowl stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel, Adrian Scarborough and Miranda Raison, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. The film will premiere exclusively on Disney this summer.
