With director Kenneth Branagh's film adaptation of the Artemis Fowl series of young adult novels skipping theaters and moving to Disney+ as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a new TV spot reveals when exactly fans will be able to stream the movie.

The promotional video, shared on Walt Disney Studios' official YouTube channel, reveals Artemis Fowl will begin streaming on Disney+ this summer on Friday, June 12 (the film was originally slated for a theatrical release on May 29). The TV spot itself gives viewers a quick taste of Artemis Fowl's plot, which involves the eponymous character -- a 12-year-old genius that comes from a long line of criminal masterminds -- devising a plan to locate his missing father.

In addition to the trailer, Disney+ has revealed a new poster for the film, which reiterates its new release date of June 12. The poster sees Artemis Fowl himself take center stage, with his supporting players occupying the background.

Written by Eoin Colfer, the original Artemis Fowl novel was first published in 2001. Seven additional books were published as part of the main series, with the most recent -- Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian -- arriving in 2012. The franchise also includes a bonus short story titled The Seventh Dwarf, a companion book called The Artemis Fowl Files, as well as several graphic novel adaptations of the original books. A spinoff series of books began late last year with The Fowl Twins. Plans for a film adaptation of Artemis Fowl date back to 2001.
