After hanging up their Daily Planet press passes more than a decade ago, Tom Welling and Erica Durance have expressed interest in reprising their roles as Smallville's Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

During a panel at MCM Comic Con London, the former costars were asked if they would be interested in returning to their roles as Metropolis' most famous couple. "Like our own multiverse? Sure. Why not," said Welling. "It'd be fun," Durance added.

Welling played Clark Kent for ten seasons on Smallville, while Durance played Lois Lane for seven seasons after joining the show in season 4. The pair were last seen as their onscreen counterparts in the Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event, in which it was revealed that Clark had traded his powers for a quiet family life on the farm with Lois and their daughters. Offscreen, Welling and Durance continue to celebrate the show at various fan events and conventions, along with other former cast members.

Though the series ended in 2011, Smallville's story continued in the comics with Bryan Q. Miller's Smallville: Season 11, which ran from 2012 to 2015. Miller's version of events sees Clark continue as Superman as he encounters more characters from DC Comics lore, such as Batman. At this year's New York Comic Con, Welling shared his original idea for a Batman cameo on Smallville. "I thought it would be cool for Clark to come into the Talon and Lex is sitting with somebody, who gets up and leaves, and Clark looks at Lana, 'who's that? Lex looks really upset.' And the other person is Bruce Wayne."

Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who played Smallville's Lex Luthor, have been working together on an animated continuation of the series since 2021. In December 2021, the former onscreen foes revealed that they were pitching the series to Warner Bros. in January 2022 with Smallville's original creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Durance offered an update on the project's development in May. "I know that it's still in the process, the guys will let me know when I'm to step in, and in what capacity," she said. "So right now I think they're still in production or pre-production, brainstorming ideas and what have you." Little else is known about the series at this time, though Welling has confirmed the return of former cast members John Glover (Lionel Luthor), Sam Jones III (Pete Ross) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang).

On the outskirts of Smallville, fans can see Welling on the CW's The Winchesters, the Supernatural prequel series in which the actor plays Samuel Campbell, and Professionals. Meanwhile, Durance can be seen in We Need a Little Christmas, which debuted on the Hallmark Channel on Oct. 22.
