David Ramsey, who played John Diggle on The CW's Arrow, is attached to star in a new Arrowverse series titled Justice U.
According to Variety, Ramsey will have a starring role in Justice U. The project, which is currently in development at The CW, sees Diggle recruiting and educating "five young meta humans" to become heroes while they live at a university. No additional casting information was provided by that outlet, and the series does not seem to have been officially greenlit as of writing.
In addition to starring, Ramsey will direct the pilot for Justice U as well as episodes for other Arrowverse series. He will also continue to guest star on those other shows. Also attached to the projects are Michael Narducci (Superman & Lois) and Zoanne Clack (Grey's Anatomy), who will write and executive produce Justice U. They'll be working alongside fellow producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and Geoff Johns.
Diggle first appeared in Arrow Season 1, Episode 1, having been hired to protect Oliver Queen after his rescue from Lian Yu. Diggle eventually became one of Queen's closest confidantes and helped him take down a number of major villains. During his time on the show, Diggle used the superhero identity Spartan. However, in the Arrow finale, Diggle found a Green Lantern ring. Since the end of Arrow, Diggle has appeared on several other Arrowverse shows.
In addition to playing Diggle on Arrow, Ramsey is known for his roles as Anton Briggs on Dexter, Joseph in Mother and Child and Mayor Carter Poole on Blue Bloods. The majority of his recent work has revolved around the Arrowverse.
Developed by Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, Arrow debuted in 2012 and launched The CW's shared superhero universe. The show, which followed the exploits of Queen and Team Arrow, ran for eight seasons before ending. A spinoff focused on Oliver's daughter, Mia Queen, was originally in the works. However, the project, which was titled Green Arrow and the Canaries, was passed on by both The CW and HBO Max. Still, Katherine McNamara, who plays Mia, has said she wants to return to the Arrowverse.
Justice U does not have a release date at this time.
