The Man of Steel has a new look for "Elseworlds," this year's Arrowverse crossover. A new set photo shared by Arrow star Stephen Amell, who plays Green Arrow, reveals Tyler Hoechlin's Superman wearing a black version of his iconic suit.Aside from a few "mind blown" emojis, Amell presented the photo without context. However, it's worth noting that -- aside from this drastic new look for Superman -- both Amell and The Flash's Grant Gustin are wearing matching boots and pants. Amell's costume comes with a chain, for added measure. Between the "Elseworlds" title and this photo, it's possible the crossover will introduce alternative universe versions of these fan-favorite characters.RELATED: Supergirl Reveals Superman’s Season 4 Whereabouts

In addition to Superman's return, the three-episode event will also introduce Ruby Rose's Batwoman and Lois Lane, who will be played by Grimm star Elizabeth Tulloch. Cassandra Jean Amell will also make her Arrowverse debut as Nora Fries, wife of Mr. Freeze.

Superman’s black costume debuted in DC Comics’ sweeping 1992-93 storyline “The Death and Return of Superman,” elements of which played out in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where the Man of Steel seemingly met his end in a battle with Doomsday. At the time of writing, it is unclear what will inspire him to wear this costume in "Elseworlds."

“Elseworlds,” this year’s Arrowverse crossover event, will begin with The Flash on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 8 pm ET, continue with Arrow on Monday, Dec. 10 at 8 pm ET and end with Supergirl on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 8 pm ET.
