Former Arrow antagonist Manu Bennett has joined the cast of MTV's Shannara. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll co-star as the druid Allanon in the adaptation of author Terry Brooks' bestselling fantasy novels.

Set hundreds of years after the destruction of our civilization, in a world that’s reverted to a medieval state, Shannara centers on the half-human, half-elf Wil Ohmasford (played by Austin Butler), who learns he's the last of the legendary Shannara family of Elven nobles empowered with an ancient magic whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the planet. Bennett's Allanon is perceptive and serious druid who'll guide Wil on the dangerous path to his destiny.

The first season will adapt 1982's The Elfstones of Shannara, the second in Brooks' initial Shannara trilogy. MTV ordered Shannara to series in July. Iron Man director Jon Favreau is attached to the project as an executive producer.

Before he travels to Shannara, Bennett is slated to make a return appearance on Arrow in early 2015.
