“Arrow” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and writer Ben Sokolowski along with artist Daniel Sampere have been announced as the newest “Green Arrow” creative team. Reported by The L.A. Times, the trio will take over from current series creative team Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino in October beginning with “Green Arrow” #35.
The success of “Arrow” likely played a role in the new creative team selection, though Kreisberg stated in an interview that it was the writing duo who approached DC Comics about the possibility of taking on the comic book incarnation of Oliver Queen.
“This is more about cross-pollination,” Sokolowski told The L.A. Times. “How can we incorporate what is working so well for ‘Arrow’ into the New 52 DCU, while at the same time, keeping what makes the original 2-D Oliver Queen so special. To that end, comic Oliver and TV Oliver have distinct voices and attitudes.  We’ll do our best to keep them unique. We really want to bring the old-school Oliver Queen voice back to the character.  In other words, the opinionated, liberal Robin Hood-esque hero that has fallen through the cracks a bit, both in the comics and TV models.”
“Green Arrow” isn’t the first comic book the writers have taken on. Sokolowski has worked on scripts for the “Arrow” digital-first comic, while Kreisberg has contributed to “Vibe” and “Green Arrow/Black Canary.” Readers will likely recognize Sampere’s work from “Batgirl” and the recent “Trinity of Sin: Pandora” series.
Bringing on the “Arrow” writers is the latest in a series of announcements from DC that seem to be influenced by the critically acclaimed CW series. Earlier this week, the publisher announced it planned to revive “Deathstroke” in October at the hands of Tony Daniel, despite the fact that the previous “Deathstroke” ongoing was cancelled in May 2013.
Kreisberg, Sokolowski and Sampere’s “Green Arrow” run begins October 1.
