Arrow is headed in a new direction for Season 7. While the series will naturally maintain the elements that fans love, season premiere director James Bamford promised this year will have "a different twist" and the potential to "go any direction."

"You'll find a lot of the same elements of the show that are your favorite elements, as far as elements that our fans have come to know and love, but with a different twist," he explained at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

"We've always prided ourselves on being the darkest show, and we're going to continue to be," he continued. "Within the universe, we have The Flash. We have Supergirl. We have Legends [of Tomorrow], self-described as more 'blue sky,' if you will. We are definitely a nighttime-on-rooftop show. We're not going to change."

"We do have our characters that we pepper in elements of fun, so we will, you'll see, with the other characters. But starting off this season, Oliver is -- as you can imagine -- in a pretty, pretty dark place. Usually, by the end of the season, as we did at the end of most seasons with the finale, we usually vanquish our big bad for the season and we start off, everything's great, it's a new world," he said. "We didn't do that last season, right? So we tried to paint a very different picture at the end of last season and leave Oliver in a different place than we've seen him, and so there's a lot of 'What If?'s and that's the beauty of Season 7, is it could go any direction."

"So, although it is very dark -- of course, we still have our characters that bring those elements of fun and we pepper it in, but we try to -- within moments of combat and whatnot -- we try to stay very serious about what we're doing. And we want to stand out from those other shows, now that there's like Titans and such. That's dark. We're nowhere near that, but we -- within the confines of our network and, you'll see, this season -- we are pushing the limits to where we can go. I had several phone calls just for the premiere alone, with our censors, with BSMP, which I've never had before as a director, just about handling certain issues which you'll see in the premiere."

"It's so exciting to be on a show that has lasted for seven years and it's exciting to get to grow with the characters. There's a lot of new -- you're going to see our characters in a lot of new roles, which is exciting. That we haven't seen before," added Beth Schwartz, the series' new showrunner. "There's going to be just a new little flavor on everything. It's going to be the same Arrow, but it's going to feel a little fresh and new, so I'm excited for that."

"We have a whole new team of writers, a new showrunner, so it's going to reflect in the show itself and everything we've been doing so far has been awesome. Different, in a very good way. I'm excited to see how it all comes together," Black Canary actor Juliana Harkavy shared.

Premiering Monday, October 15 at 8 pm ET on The CW, Arrow Season 7 stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Echo Kellum as Mr. Terrific, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary and Katie Cassidy as Black Siren.
