SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Life Sentence," the Season 6 finale of Arrow.
The jig is up! The news is out! In "Life Sentence," the Season 6 finale of Arrow, Oliver Queen revealed he is the Green Arrow on live television.
Last week, Oliver cut a deal with FBI Agent Samandra Watson, who offered to help Star City on the condition he would let her arrest him once everything was said and done. So, as the finale wound down, he allowed Watson to take him into custody. Fortunately for the rest of Team Arrow, this deal included their immunity, so they were able to walk away from the fight unscathed.
As Oliver was led out of the Star City Police Department, the media swarmed him and asked for a comment. At that, he looked straight into the camera and said, "I am the Green Arrow." He then proceeded to give a short speech, where he confessed that he let other people take the fall for him. Following his speech, he was transferred to Super Max, where the episode closed.
Throughout the season, Oliver has been adamant that he wouldn't out himself to the public at large. Indeed, he and his friends have gone to great lengths to prevent that very thing from happening, even asking Human Target to pose as Green Arrow at one point. At this stage, his primary concern has been the safety of his wife Felicity and son William; however, prior to his arrest, he arranged for ARGUS to send the two into protective custody, thus sparing them from any enemies who might attack them because of their connection to him.
Now that Oliver is out as the Green Arrow, the whole dynamic of the show has changed fundamentally. The show has dealt with the matter of his secret identity several times now, and he has pulled out all the stops each time to prevent his real name from getting out. Since he announced his secret identity on live television, there's no way he can hide from or reverse the fact that everyone knows he's the Green Arrow. It remains to be seen how that affects the rest of Team Arrow, who are known associates of Oliver in his civilian life.
Airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Arrow stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Rick Gonzalez, Echo Kellum, Juliana Harkavy, Kirk Acevado, Paul Blackthorne and Katie Cassidy. The Season 6 finale arrives May 17.
