Though she started off as a minor villain on The Flash, fan-favorite Arrowverse character Laurel Lance/Black Siren eventually switched sides on Arrow following a redemption arc that spanned two seasons.
This arc ultimately saw her take up the Black Canary identity that once belonged to her deceased Earth-1 counterpart. According to the character's actor, Katie Cassidy, more stories involving the character may be on their way.
While speaking to TVLine, Cassidy was asked what was important to her about the aforementioned redemption arc. "Just that her story, in terms of her character, be told and looked at in a way as though it were a separate identity, starting as her doppelgänger," Cassidy explained. "Playing Black Siren, I wanted her to get a sense of depth. I wanted it to feel like she lived a different life, and that actually came down to the writers and myself doing the character backstory, trying to make her as complex and whole as possible."
Cassidy added that she also "wanted to have a chance to tell [Black Siren's] story of where she came from," and that she believes the story is still being explored.
"That’s what’s cool about this potential spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries; we still don’t know the story of how Black Siren, on Earth-Two as her redeemed self, learned what it’s like to be a hero," the actor concluded. She added, "What has she gone through as we pick up with this pilot in 2040? There is still a lot of story to be told."
Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy as Black Siren, Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke and Ben Lewis as William Clayton-Queen. All eight seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.
