"Arrow"'s John Diggle didn’t have a great time during the show's fourth season. The CW sidekick spent most of the season dealing with his own angst, leaving him unable to deal with the added angst that is Oliver Queen and co.
Executive producer Wendy Mericle says that Diggle's anger over his brother will continue to isolate him at the start of the fifth season.
"He's stationed in Chechnya," Mericle told TV Line. "He's still in the military, and he's very much a man without a state. He's away from his family, and he's away from the team, so he's away from that family. He's trying to figure out how he can get that sense of himself back after killing his brother."
Mericle says that Diggle will still be separated from the team even when he does make his return to Starling City, angry with new members like Mr. Terrific, Artemis and Wild Dog.
“He’s not going to love all these little upstarts, trying to take over his role,” she said. “But he’ll adjust. He’s going to find some common ground with Wild Dog, and that will help take the sting out of it.”
"Arrow" returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, October 5, at 8pm ET on the CW.
