It's true: Artemis broke bad and she's now working with Prometheus. However, that big reveal at the end of "Vigilante" prompted a host of new questions, not the least of which is: exactly how long has Artemis been working with him? Thanks to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, we now have the answer.

“Rewatch episode 5.06,” Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly. “If you view the end of 5.06 and her final scenes with Oliver as, ‘Oh, she’s lying,’ I think you see when she decided to team up with Prometheus. Basically in the commercial break between Act 5 and Act 6 [of that episode], that’s when she made the decision to join up with Prometheus. So while people were watching car commercials, that’s what she was doing.”

Titled "So It Begins," Season 5 Episode 6 featured the first showdown between Green Arrow and Prometheus. Notably, this is also the episode where Team Arrow's new recruits learned that Oliver had once killed his enemies indiscriminately. Artemis, in particular, was scandalized by this news; after all, he was the one that told her killing wasn't the answer way back in the Season 4 episode "Canary Cry." Evidently, Artemis decided this was too much for her, and she joined Prometheus in the very next episode.

The last scene of "Vigilante" found Artemis standing on a rooftop, surveying the streets below. As she kept a lookout, an hulking figure approached her from behind: Prometheus. When she turned to face him, he didn’t attack. Instead, she offered him a knowing smile and told him that no one else suspected anything.

For all appearances, then, Artemis is a mole within Team Arrow. This certainly wouldn’t be out of character for the rebellious young vigilante; she butt heads with Green Arrow when they first met in Season 4. She certainly has enough motive to turn traitor, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sealed deal. The scene was brief and didn’t have much context, so she could also be acting as a double agent on Team Arrow’s behalf. However, that’s yet to be seen, and the scene at the end of “Vigilante” does her no favors.

Starring Stephen Amell as the Emerald Archer, "Arrow" airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, John Barrowman, Willa Holland and more.
