SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Fadeout," the Arrow series finale.

The Green Lanterns Corps. has officially joined the Arrowverse.

In "Fadeout," the Arrow series finale, John Diggle finally got his Green Lantern ring. The closing montage, which revealed the members of Team Arrow heading their separate ways, picked up with Diggle as he finished packing up his house to move to Metropolis. As he closed the moving van, the sky burst into flames, with a fireball hurtling right towards him. It crashed right in front of him, sending him flying backwards into the side of the van.

Diggle struggled to his feet and cautiously approached the smoking crater. Inside, he found a small box. He opened it, only for its contents to glow bright green. Though the camera never panned to show what was inside, the scene made it clear that John Diggle of Earth had been invited to join the Green Lantern Corps., in almost the same way as DC Comics' Hal Jordan before him.

Diggle's speech at Oliver's funeral also contained some subtle references to his future as a Green Lantern. "The Oliver that I met eight years ago is not the one that we say goodbye to today," he said. "Oliver always told me that, in order to save his city, he had to become someone else -- he had to become something else. I always thought that meant becoming the Green Arrow, but today I realized that meant becoming a better man -- the best man he knew how to be -- and he took all of us with him on that journey. He changed everything. Oliver brought heroes into the world. He inspired heroes. He inspired all of us here. I was his brother, and Oliver Queen was mine."

"Of course, life will go on," he continued. "It always does. But how, what twists and turns it will take, I can't say. I don't know what the future holds, except to say expect the unexpected. Oliver may be gone, but his mission endures. That mission lives on. Oliver lives on in the people he inspired. Some will take that mission to the rest of the world, maybe even beyond that. Because if the past eight years have shown us anything, it's that this universe is far bigger than any of us could have dared imagine, even if it is a little less bright without him in it."

Over the course of the series, the Arrowverse has consistently teased Diggle as a potential Green Lantern. For one, the Season 7 episode "Spartan" introduced Diggle's step-father General Roy Stewart, which means he could have been John Stewart -- just like the Green Lantern of the same name. In "Elseworlds," last year's crossover, Earth-90's Flash mistook Diggle for a Green Lantern and asked him why he wasn't wearing his "ring." Plus, there are other factors -- like Diggle's military history and longstanding friendship with Green Arrow -- that mirror Green Lantern as he appeared in the comics.

With Diggle's Green Lantern future more or less confirmed, he could certainly factor into the Arrowverse elsewhere. Considering his move to Metropolis, he could appear in the upcoming Superman & Lois spinoff or Supergirl with his new status. Additionally, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti has a Green Lantern TV series in the works for HBO Max, which means he could turn up there. For now, though, Diggle actor David Ramsey is keeping mum on Diggle's future, even with his upcoming appearance on The Flash.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy as Black Siren, Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke and Ben Lewis as William Clayton-Queen.
