Roy Harper Arsenal

Roy Harper is headed back to Star City for Arrow Season 6. The CW announced today that Colton Haynes will reprise his role as Arsenal for a short story arc starting in episode 15.

"We’re thrilled to announce that Colton Haynes will be reprising his role as Roy Harper for a short arc on Arrow this year," executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle said in a statement. "Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team. His short visit turns into something surprising when he reunites with Thea and sparks a change in both of their lives that will have long-lasting consequences..."

Haynes' Roy Harper debuted in the fifteenth episode of Arrow's premiere season. He worked his way up through the ranks of Team Arrow in the following years, becoming a vigilante in his own right. As Arsenal, Roy stuck by Oliver's side until the end of Season 3, where he pretended to be the Arrow in order to clear Oliver Queen's name. He then faked his death and left Star City for good to start a new life somewhere else. Despite this, Haynes returned in Season 4 for a one-off episode, where the Calculator blackmailed him into working for him.

Later, in a personal essay, Haynes revealed why he chose to leave the show. “I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time,” he wrote, explaining that he used the break from acting to refocus his priorities. “I’ve had terminal anxiety my entire life. Physically ill, fainting. I’m 27 years old, and I have an ulcer. I had to step back.”

Haynes teased his return back in September, where he told a fan on Twiter that “Roy’s coming back very soon.” However, his return was not officially announced until today. It is unclear how long he will be back, as his story arc has been described as "short." However, Team Arrow will likely need the help, as new recruits Wild Dog, Black Canary and Mr. Terrific decided to leave and form a vigilante group of their own in the mid-season finale.

Starring Stephen Amell as the Emerald Archer, Arrow will return Thursday, January 18 at 9pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Emily Bett Rickards, David Ramsey, Willa Holland and more.
