Death has never stopped characters from returning to Arrow, as we have seen in the case of Laurel Lance, Moira Queen and Sara Lance. Now, the cast of the CW series is set for another blast from its past: actor Collin Donnell has confirmed that he will return to the DC series as Tommy Merlyn, although he wouldn't specify in which capacity exactly.
During an interview with TVLine, the Chicago Med star was asked if a recent picture of him and fellow co-star Stephen Amell hinted at the actor returning to Arrow. "Yes, I will be," Donnell answered. "And that’s pretty much all I can say about it."
The level of secrecy surrounding the actor's answer is quite intriguing. Donnell previously returned on the series in the form of flashbacks, and those were never closely kept secrets. However, what was kept under tight wraps was Donnell's cameo in this past November's "Crisis on Earth-X" crossover, which saw him briefly return as an evil Tommy Merlyn from an alternate Earth.
With the flashback sequences no longer used on the series, will Tommy Merlyn return to life, or will we be looking at another doppelganger situation? Whatever the case may be, with a series regular status on his NBC medical drama, it's unlikely that Donnell will be returning to Arrow full time.
Airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Arrow stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Rick Gonzalez, Echo Kellum, Juliana Harkavy, Kirk Acevado, Paul Blackthorne and Katie Cassidy.
