"Arrow" has cast Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson, the man under the mask of Deathstroke.

The CW's breakout superhero drama "Arrow" has cast "Spartacus" co-star Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson, the DC Comics villain better known as Deathstroke, Entertainment Weekly reports. The character already appeared on the Nov. 8 episode "Damaged," masked and in flashback, played by another actor.

Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the mercenary and assassin debuted in 1980's "New Teen Titans" #2, becoming a regular foe of the super-team through its many incarnations while also making time to tangle with Green Arrow and many other DC heroes.

According to EW, Wilson will be depicted again in flashbacks as he and Oliver Queen (star Stephen Amell) "form an uneasy alliance" on the North China Sea island whether the latter was shipwrecked for five years. Considering that when Deathstroke was last seen he was torturing Oliver, "uneasy" is probably an understatement.

Bennett, whose credits include "30 Days of Night," all three seasons of Starz's "Spartacus" and the upcoming "Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," has signed on for multiple episodes of "Arrow." Slade Wilson is only the latest character from the DC catalog to make his way to the show this season, joining the likes of The Huntress, Deadshot, China White, Firefly and the Royal Flush Gang.

"Arrow" airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
