As executive producer on The CW's Arrow and The Flash, Greg Berlanti has successfully brought two iconic DC Comics characters to television, and is also currently developing CBS' Supergirl and FOX's take on Archie and his gang for Riverdale. On Friday, it was announced Berlanti would be working on yet another icon for primetime: Oscar.

The producers of the 87th Academy Awards named Berlanti the head writer for the award show. Variety notes that it's rare to have a drama series writer working on the show, with previous writers typically coming from "the world of feature films, live-event telecasts and comedy shows like Saturday Night Live."

Joining Berlanti's Oscar writing team will be fellow Arrow/Flash showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, Michael Green -- who worked on 2011's Green Lantern script with Berlanti -- and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter writer Seth Grahame-Smith, who is also developing an adaption of Stephen King's The Things They Left Behind with Berlanti.

The 87th Academy Awards will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and air February 22nd, 2015 on ABC.
