Arrested Development UK Press Tour Canceled Amid Jeffrey Tambor Backlash

In the wake of widely criticized comments by most of the male stars of Arrested Development in defense of Jeffrey Tambor, Netflix has canceled a planned United Kingdom press tour for comedy's fifth season.

In an interview released earlier this week by The New York Times, most of the show's cast -- Tambor, Jessica Walter, Tony Hale, Jason Bateman, Alia Shawkat, Will Arnett and David Cross -- addressed Tambor's firing from Transparent following allegations of harassment on set, and his altercation with Walter. "I've never had anybody yell at me like that on a set," Walter said, breaking into tears. "And it's hard to deal with, but I'm over it now."

Bateman attempted to defend Tambor, over the objections of Walter and Shawkat, saying, "certain people have certain processes." The sound bite of both his defense and Walter's tearful admission quickly spread across social media on Wednesday, and led to repeated rebukes of Bateman. The actor apologized the following morning, acknowledging that he "shouldn't have tried to mansplain, or fix a fight ... this is a big learning moment for me." Cross also publicly apologized to Walter for defending Tambor's behavior.

In a statement released Thursday, Netflix announced, "At this time we have decided not to move ahead with promotional activity in the U.K. but hope to bring the cast back at another time."

Arriving May 29 on Netflix, Arrested Development stars Jason Bateman, David Cross, Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter and Jeffrey Tambor.
