Arnold Schwarzenegger, the star of the upcoming Netflix action series FUBAR, recently shared that he thinks Last Action Hero is his most underrated film.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Schwarzenegger was asked to divulge his most underrated role. "Last Action Hero. It was slaughtered before anybody saw it. It was literally a political attack because I was campaigning for [former President George H.W. Bush], but Bill Clinton won," explained the fan-favorite actor. "Last Action Hero was great — it wasn’t fantastic, but it was underrated. Now, more and more people are seeing it and saying, 'I love this movie.' I’m getting the residual checks, so I know it’s true. It made money — that’s always an important thing for me. Because it’s show business, right?"

Released in 1993, Last Action Hero is a satirical fantasy action comedy film directed by John McTiernan, the filmmaker behind classic '80s films Predator and Die Hard. The film was co-written by David Arnott and Shane Black, the latter of whom also did uncredited script work for Predator (another Schwarzenegger-led action film). In Last Action Hero, Schwarzenegger portrays both Jack Slater, an L.A. police detective within the Jack Slater film franchise, and himself as the actor portraying Jack Slater. The film, a parody of the action film genre, was a critical and commercial bust at the time of release, but later became a cult classic following its home video release.

Schwarzenegger Returns to the Spy Genre With FUBAR

After a prolific career on the big screen, Schwarzenegger is ready to conquer the small screen with FUBAR. The upcoming Netflix program will mark his first starring role in a live-action television series. It will also bring him back to his action adventure roots, having previously starred in several successful action films in the 1980s and '90s. "Everywhere I go, people ask me when I’m going to do another big action comedy like True Lies," Schwarzenegger said in a statement that accompanied the first trailer for FUBAR. "Well, here it is. FUBAR will kick your ass and make you laugh – and not just for two hours. You get a whole season. It’s been a joy to work with Nick, Skydance, and Netflix to give my fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for."

While specific plot details for FUBAR are being classified as top secret, the logline for the upcoming spy adventure series reads as follows: "A CIA operative on the verge of retirement discovers a family secret. Forced to go back into the field for one last job, FUBAR tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action and humor." Schwarzenegger will play the CIA operative while Monica Barbaro, who recently starred opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, will play his daughter Emma, who also works for the CIA.

FUBAR begins streaming on Netflix on May 25.
