The Arnold Schwarzenegger-starred action/thriller The Terminator recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of its original theatrical release. To mark the occasion, Schwarzenegger himself has shared some behind-the-scenes photos from his own personal collection.
The former Governor of California posted the images to the r/movies subreddit using his official Reddit account. "A journalist just reminded me that today is the 35th anniversary of the release, so I asked my archivist to find some of the photos in my albums so I could share with you guys," Schwarzenegger wrote in the comments. "Looking back at this, I realize they were always brutalizing me and making me as ugly as possible."
To Schwarzenegger's point, most of the photos -- which can be seen below -- place an emphasis on the makeup work, which was used to make the actor's character look wounded and bloody. However, there is also an addition photo which sees a smiling Arnie standing beside a cardboard cutout of himself.
Elsewhere in the comics, Schwarzenegger was asked if he had any idea how big a deal The Terminator would become when they were first filming it. "None of us did!" he replied. "I also didn’t know I’ll be back would be such a big line. Jim was right to force me to say it his way instead of 'I will be back.'"
Directed by James Cameron, The Terminator first hit theaters on Oct. 26, 1984. The film spawned several sequels -- including Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys -- as well as the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The next film in the franchise is Terminator: Dark Fate, which arrives in a few days and sees Schwarzenegger reprise his role as the T-800.
Directed by Tim Miller and produced by James Cameron, Terminator: Dark Fate stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes and Diego Boneta. The film opens Nov. 1.
