Netflix has revealed the first official teaser trailer for Army of Thieves, the upcoming heist film that serves as a prequel to director Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which premiered earlier this year.

Army of Thieves is directed by Matthias Schweighöfer. Schweighöfer also stars in the film, reprising his role as Ludwig Dieter from Army of the Dead. Shay Hatten penned the prequel's screenplay from a story he wrote alongside Snyder, who also serves as a producer on the film. In addition to Schweighöfer, Army of Thieves stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Jonathan Cohen, Noemie Nakai, Peter Simonischek and John Bubniak.

"In this prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol's most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe," the official synopsis for Army of Thieves reads.

A zombie heist film starring Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi and Garret Dillahunt, Army of the Dead premiered on Netflix on May 14. In addition to the Army of Thieves prequel -- which currently lacks an official release date -- Netflix is also developing an anime spinoff series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. A sequel to Army of the Dead is also in the works, with Snyder planning to tackle the project after he finishes work on his Netflix film Rebel Moon.
