Ark: Survival Evolved expanded its territories in June with the reveal of Fjordur, a map heavily inspired by Norse mythology. Four new islands, three realms and numerous points of interest were introduced in the content update, including a wide range of resources, items and unique creatures. Among the latest additions to Studio Wildcard's popular survival game is a consumable called Sanguine Elixir, which some players might be interested in procuring.

Despite its rather basic application in taming wildlife, players cannot craft the Sanguine Elixir before meeting several prerequisites. These will take them on an exploratory journey to the southeastern reaches of Fjordur, where they will have no choice but to test their mettle against one of the newly introduced creatures. Since the mystical elixir is arguably one of the most practical and useful items in the entire region, players should consider adding it to their priority list.

How to Find and Tame Sanguine Elixir's Host

To unlock the ability to craft the Sanguine Elixir, players first need to tame a giant bat known as Desmodus. Usually found hanging from the ceilings of caves scattered across the new map, these mammals are often part of a colony, which is why players would do well to bring a long-range weapon to the fight. Before embarking on a quest to housebreak a bone-chilling Desmodus, some preparations are in order.

Perhaps expectedly, the Desmodus have a knack for feasting on blood. While their diet might appear lackluster on the surface, it is deeply entrenched in select gameplay mechanics that become available when the creatures submit their volatile temper to the whims of their ironclad tamers. Before setting course for the island of Balheimr to try their luck at taming one of the resident Desmodus nested at coordinates 90.0 - 78.0, players need to equip at least 10 Blood Packs in their inventory hotbar.

After sacrificing upwards of 250 HP to create a dozen Blood Packs or more with the help of a Blood Extraction Syringe, the next step entails capturing the Desmodus' attention. This can be done by either getting close to the creature or shooting another one in its vicinity. Instead of fighting the hostile Desmodus off, players need to allow the bat to seize them and let it take flight. The Desmodus will then start consuming the equipped Blood Packs, and once it has sucked the tenth bag dry, a message disclosing that the creature has been tamed should appear. If it casually drops its human captive on the ground after the midair feast, the taming attempt is unsuccessful, and players will have to try again.

How to Craft the Sanguine Elixir

With a Desmodus successfully tamed, making the most of the bat's innate abilities is as easy as equipping it with a saddle. Aside from the two skills that will help players locate nearby animals and become invisible, these unique blood-sucking creatures are the only ones capable of producing the Sanguine Elixir. Because its production is not an automated process that the Desmodus are capable of without assistance, players need to initiate it manually.

To craft a single vial of the Sanguine Elixir, the domesticated Desmodus needs to have 200 Blood Packs inside its inventory. Fortunately, players are not left to their own devices, as each animal the bat kills adds one Pack to the count. After placing the required Packs in the creature's inventory, players can enter the Consumables menu to find a recipe for the Sanguine Elixir. By selecting the icon, stacks of Blood Packs will transform into one or more Sanguine Elixirs, depending on the available fodder.

The taming boost that the Sanguine Elixir provides is the main reason players should pursue its production. Using it on unconscious animals when standing next to them adds 30% to their taming progress, while the Elixir's application on wildlife babies increases their imprint by the same amount. Although its beneficial effect does not stack with multiple administrations on a single target, the Sanguine Elixir is bound to both ease and hasten the process of taming in the long run.
