"Worlds Unite," the latest "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Mega Man" crossover from Archie Comics, is set to feature a whole lot more video game franchises than those two. As announced by the publisher Thursday, characters from both Sonic and Mega Man's respective parent companies -- Sega and Capcom -- will also play a part in the upcoming story, including characters from "Golden Axe," "Ghosts N' Goblins," "Panzer Dragoon," "Monster Hunter" and -- likely the biggest name to most fans -- "Street Fighter."

"With the formation of the reality-traversing 'Genesis Portals,' our heroes will be taken to new worlds from throughout the Sega and Capcom universes to do battle with Sigma's forces of evil," Archie Comics Executive Director of Editorial Paul Kaminski said in an interview with IGN of the mechanism behind the crossover.

The current list of franchises included in "Worlds Unite": From Sega, "Alex Kidd," "Billy Hatcher," "Golden Axe," "NiGHTS," "Skies of Arcadia," and "Panzer Dragoon;" from Capcom, "Breath of Fire," 'Ghosts N' Goblins," "Monster Hunter," "Street Fighter," "Okami," and "Viewtiful Joe." Speaking of "Street Fighter" specifically, Kaminski mentioned Ryu (who appears in the teaser image), Chun-Li and "all your favorite characters" as involved in the story.

"Worlds Unite" was first announced last October, with Kaminski teasing to CBR at the time, "What worlds are involved in that unity is yet to be revealed, but you can bet it's going to be big!" The story is set to begin with a prelude issue released on Free Comic Book Day (May 2), then continue as a 12-part crossover between Archie Action titles "Sonic Universe," "Sonic Boom," "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Mega Man."
